COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lovers of strong beer need not worry that ERDINGER Weissbier Pikantus 'dark bock beer' is going to be too sweet, as is the case with so many bock beers. Despite the higher alcohol content, the Erding brew masters have succeeded in retaining the special Pikantus taste.

Aroma: sweet, yeasty with lots of banana. Roasted malt in the taste. Bitter finish. Very full bodied, but not too sweet. Phenolic and a dry mouthfeel.

UPDATED: SEP 10, 2004 Raisiny madeira dominates aroma slight honey and citric notes as well. Cloudy chestnut, brown foamy head, cerfull with the pouring or you will get yeast floaties. Caramel malty flavors, spice some roast and hops as well - flavor is not living up to the aroma though. Butterscotch aftertaste, relatively lightbodied - sticky mouthfeel.

dark brown colour, fine creamy head, no lace, caramel, alcohol and butter aroma, very sweet, malty with notes of black chocolate in the finish - lacks of character

A wonderful bock beer with a brown, hazy color, strong, rich, full-bodied, malt flavors, slightly sweet, an easy finish, yet thoroughly refreshing, nicely balanced and unique, in my view, due to the character of the carbonation, and vastly underrated by this group.

This is a great malty bock that pours with a large head of foam. Pikantus hides it’s alcholic content - enjoy, but beware. This is too easy to drink.

UPDATED: SEP 17, 2004 Head is initially huge, frothy, light brown, fully lasting. Body is hazy dark brown, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (bread, caramel), moderately yeasty (mold, dough), with notes of banana, raisin, clove. Flavor is heavily sweet, moderately acidic. Finish is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Medium to full body, syrupy/creamy texture, lively carbonation. Another "looks great but doesn't deliver" beer from Erdinger, sadly. Yeast seems to be the culprit here; the nose is quite plagued by a moldy and raw doughy smell that kills the attractive aspects. Similarly, the aftertaste is somewhat unclean, in a tongue-coating yeast-like fashion. Not terrible, but not very enjoyable either.

UPDATED: SEP 26, 2004 Beautiful nut brown and hazy. Toffee aroma, rather malty, rather sweet, but it lacks character. A pale shadow to other weizenbock, missing all the complexity, and all the flavours that make the style interesting.

Nice attractive head and deep amber color. Strong wheaty flavor with thick mouthfeel. The flavor is kind of clunky and as said before one-dimensional, with a real sweet finish. I do like the carbonation though.

Dark, cloudy, and over carbonated. Detectable malting, but lacking anything else. This beer is one dimensional and average.
