COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lovers of strong beer need not worry that ERDINGER Weissbier Pikantus 'dark bock beer' is going to be too sweet, as is the case with so many bock beers. Despite the higher alcohol content, the Erding brew masters have succeeded in retaining the special Pikantus taste.

Pours a big glass of tan foam with a little dark brown beer in the bottom. Bright amber highlights. Huge head settles into just a thin layer of foam with little or no lacing. Smells of sweet cherry, caramel and, faintly, red wine. Caramel dominates taste, also chocolate, not enough bitterness to balance. Very nice smooth creamy mouth feel although it is not at all heavy. Lacks any spice flavors that I normaly associate with wheat beer. Smooth and drinkable but a bit bland for me.

50 cL bottle. Pours hazy and dark brown with a dense off-white head. Mild malty aroma. Flavour starts mild sweet to medium dry, not much of the classic wheat notes here apart from the classic wheat mellow texture. Finish holds a soft malt flavour, some alcohol presence and a mild bitterness.

500 ml bottle from Bevmo. Pours a murky dark brown color with a fine foamy off-white head that quickly recedes. The aroma is strong and rich with molasses. The flavor is dominated by molasses and dates; roasted malts and plums fill in the sides. The mouthfeel was a bit uneven starting thin and evolving into sticky. Carbonation was lively and prickly. The Finish was long and pasty with a bit of lingering molasses and dough. Overall: Recommended

Bottle (500ml). Poured a hazy dark brown with muddy highlights with a large off white head which settled down to average size. Aroma was of sweet sultanas, molasses, lightly roasted malts, small traces of alcohol and some honey glazed nuts in the back. Taste was sweetish with sultanas, dark fruits, some grainy notes followed by a very subtle alcoholic taste. Medium to full bodied with lively carbonation, a watery mouthfeel and a pleasent acidic bitterness.

Appearance: dark coffee color with reddish tones. Great head, consistent, beige and not lasting. Aroma: malty, wheat, candy, toffee, sugar and vanilla. Candy oranges, raisins and plums smells. Flavor: mainly to caramel malts and wheat’s sweetness, roasted sugar, semi-toasty, some toffee and Irish’s coffee reminiscences. Ripe fruitiness like plums, raisins and figs. Liquory taste. Slight spicy similar to clove, vanilla and even to ginger. Candy aftertaste. Palate: medium body and semi-oily texture; intensive carbonation. Some unbalanced start, slight artificial sweetness and excessive carbonation.

A nice nose of raisins/grape juice. Very pleasant, considering how rich and dark. The taste was also of raisins, and dates. Very pleasant, easy, if somewhat rich and grapey. I thought it would be good to try with gamey dishes (such as duck!).

1/2 bottle at home after lossing half of it to a fizzing accident when bag was droped. Bottle was intact and cap fiormly on. Opened about 20 hours after dropping and it still fizzed on popping cap... Deep dark very clowdy brown ... little smokey malts ... very fruity ... roast malts , a not quite smokey flavour ... little coffee ... alcohol does seem present though ... some cloves

[Sampled in 2003.] Boring look but great taste. Didn’t gave these notes in 2003 but a sample on tap raised them to a higher level, despite its challenging flavor it gains within time to a masterpiece for the style!

(Bottle) Pours a shade of brown with a toffee colored head. Sweet aroma of wheat, caramel, and spice. Spicy taste, with clove and nutmeg (especially as it warms). Biscuits and sweet dry malty notes as well. High carbonation, and slight alcoholic hints as well. A decent brew.

Bottle. Aroma of caramel malt, toffee and some fading sweet wheat characteristics. Pours dark brown with a quickly disappearing white head. Flavor is a nice balance of wheat and bock: biscuit and toasty malt some caramel with some dough and wheat notes. Medium bodied with a dry hoppy finish.
