Lovers of strong beer need not worry that ERDINGER Weissbier Pikantus 'dark bock beer' is going to be too sweet, as is the case with so many bock beers. Despite the higher alcohol content, the Erding brew masters have succeeded in retaining the special Pikantus taste.

Dark brown, a little cloudy, small 1/2 inch head. Sweet wheat aroma. Palate is heavy. Flavor is fizzy medium wheat malt. Finish is a little fizzy.

Pours dark brown mahogany w/ a solid head. Good head retention and lacing. Aromas of aged citrus, banana, and kiwi. Medium nectar w/ good carbonation. Very expansive on the palate. Malty, mildly sweet and roasted w/ defined tropical acidity. Bread, apple, nectarine, plumb, banana, and other tropicals roll off my tongue. The finish is bittered w/ acid. Overall: this is a complex brew but the flavors don’t integrate well.

Bottle. Very sweet and malty, light alcoholic, dark bread. Large off-white creamy head, rather fast diminishing; dark brown body. Moderate sweet start, light bitter finish, medium duration. Creamy texture, medium to full body, light alcoholic finish. Nice Bock.

50cl. bottle at home: Hazy dark brown with a quickly fading and strangely cola-like head. In fact the color is pretty cola-like as well. If it wasn’t for the haziness and the aroma.. nevermind. Sweet malty and sugary nose. Sugar coated malt grains! Some light tea behind the upfront sweetness brings some earthiness to it. The is some indistinguishable fruit character inside the sugar. Perhaps strawberries or really sweet grapes. First split second impression as the beer touches your lips is that this is a sugar bomb, but as it flows over your tongue you are relieved that it is more mellow. The thought of raw sugar is replaced by toffee, and sweet buns. A vein of marshmallow runs through it but is broken up by darker caramels and molasses. Banana offers some fruit complexity. This is a sweet beer but not sticky, and it never feels too heavy. Perhaps too sweet for many drinkers. Some bitterness along with chocolate and roast finds its way to the end. Quite an easy drinking for 7.3% ABV

Hazy reddish brown with a voluminous head. Nice and spcy with a lot of toffee, raisin, wood and great complexity. The alchol is present however and it gets a bit cloying.

Starts metalic, aluminum and vegetables.. begins getting better while it warms.. molases, bittering hops and a bit of breadyness. And ends much better with tons of caramel, bananas, toffee and a med. body.

There sweet molasses with notes of bananas and citrus, hops are lingering on the end. Body: medium to thick Finish: Is slightly bitter but failrly balanced.

Bottle 0.5L. Poured in dipple mug. High carbonation at the beggining created a higher foam than I’d like, but it’s amber color along with the light beige creamy foam made my eyes happy. I was expecting more from the aroma, banana one dominated it for me. Some malt came along with it, but it was mainly fruity. It tasted nicely fruity, with some roasted malt, with good bitter aftertaste that brought a nice warm alcohol feeling. Nice beer. Cerveja boa.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a off-white head. Aroma is grainy malt, bread, dark fruits. Flavors are chocolate, malt, dark fruit. A touch of alcohol in a dry, slightly roasty astringent finish.

UPDATED: MAR 29, 2008 Dark brown with nice creamy head. A very malty and caramel aroma. Roasted malt flavour and a sticky and bitter finish. Not too bad, however the Aventinus is the superior.
