Lovers of strong beer need not worry that ERDINGER Weissbier Pikantus 'dark bock beer' is going to be too sweet, as is the case with so many bock beers. Despite the higher alcohol content, the Erding brew masters have succeeded in retaining the special Pikantus taste.

Dark velvet! Smooth fruity nose, perfect carbonation and a rocky head. Smooth and full bodied in the mouth. Good balance between the darkbock and the weizen.

Bottle. Poured into Weizen style glass. Large head with large, but tight foam that faded fairly quickly, leaving no lacing. Banana/raisin nose, and that carries through to the top of the tongue. The finish is a little more dry, and itís there that you catch the alcohol, along with a citrus tang. A wonderful beer--a little less sweetness on the front end, and I mightíve gone up a point or three.

Bottle. Head was average to large and slightly off-white creamy. Color was brown with light hazy body. Aroma was fruit, caramel, spicy and grain. Medium boded with an average carbonation. Flavor was mostly sweet, but light notes of bitterness balances this one. Nice sweet finish. Ok Weizen Bock, and defiantly the best Erdinger so far.

Intense bitter taste. Aroma of intense coffee and toasted malt. Dense and not persistent cream..........................................POR O pessoal da comunidade "degustadores de Cerveja" do Orkut chama a Erdinger de "Merdinger". Maldade... Mas essa alem„ decepciona. Trata-se de uma tentativa de fazer uma Bock parecer mais "forte". O conjunto, entretanto, fica comprometido. O resultado ť que ela n„o se parece nem com uma Bock, nem com uma Weiss. Amargor intenso e nada convidativo. Aroma de cafť e malte torrado intenso. Creme pouco denso e n„o persistente.

Impenetrable deep brown pour with heaped cappuccino suds. Rich, chocolate raisiny snout with a sniff of yeast. Creamy burnt chocolate maltiness with hints of banana, dark fruit, booze and Erdingerís characteristic note of woodsy dryness. Quite a dry finish followed by some mellow wheatiness after the swallow. An excellent balance of malty sweetness and roasty bitterness.

500ml bottle - Pours dark brown with a medium head and no lacing. The aroma is malts, bananas, and yeast. The flavor has a hint of banana as well and the wheat comes through well. It has a medium body and lively carbonation, and finishes a little dry.

This has 08 2006 on the back, so it may be past itís prime. Letís find out. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with some red highlights when held up towards a light. The beige colored head peaks at two fingers, and fades slowly to a soapy cap that leaves behind a thick sheeting of lace. Smell; the aroma is a bit tame here, but there are some hints of wheat with a little bit of lemon. Some sweet caramel malts and a touch of a spiciness are present along with a touch of chocolate. But as I said itís all very mild in the aroma department. Taste; mm...much better. The wheat is much more present in the flavor, with a nice spiciness that mixes very nicely with the caramel and chocolate malts. After a few sips the lemon shows itself with a bit of herbal hops. Mouthfeel/Drinkability; Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with a nice creamy feel to it, and has a really good drinkability.

UPDATED: JUN 6, 2007 Iím not a big fan of wheat beers, but after I had a small affair with Aventinus, I decided to pick this one up too. Itís not Aventinus, but itís damn good. For someone who doesnít enjoy the sweet and bananalike flavours, itís THE weissbeer. Small honey melon tones with absolutely wonderful mouthfeel. I donít know if itís bottle conditioned, but it sure feels like it. Kind of a bitter and dry after taste. One of the best looking beers, itís totally dark brownish black with a nice lasting head.
