3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
500ml. Pours ebony with garnet highlights and a dirty white head that reduces to a ring of fizz that keeps moving for a while. Smoke, sugar, and chocolate on the nose; they’re joined by molasses on the tongue. That palate, though--the sugars come up, and so do the fizz. The aggressive bubbles really score the stuff against the surfaces of the mouth, it’s harsh and raw. It’s fun, it’s interesting and drinkable, but the rawness really subtracts from it. It ends up not being subtle or complex enough to make up for the sweet and the fizzy.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
The aroma is smokey and full of malt. It looks a lot darker than my other doublebocks. Quite picuant flavour (hah!), which means that it’s quite hoppy. Very nice beer. Not that special actually, just very good stuff.

Bottled. Thick flat black body, had a cappuchino head for a while. Aroma of wet glass and liquorice. Full of yeasty goodness, slight sweetness, carbonation brings a creamy palate.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Darkly amber misty color, foamy head, Palate is slightly thin and flavours aren’t as complex as Aventinus. Smooth and fruity and a reasonable option if the big A isn’t available

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark body, blackish, yet thin looking. Head is toasted white bread and long-lasting, thick head. Smells of robust hops, polite chocolate malt. Taste is large, sweet medium-thick palate. Carbonated, toffee, caramel, a little bitterness to go with sweetness, grapes, agridulce as they say in Spanish. Wonderful roasted malt characteristics and lingering froth, well-made beer. Purchased at Supermercado Haas in Cochabamba, Bolivia.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
500ml bottle in an Erdinger World Cup glass at Blå Rock Cafe in Tromsø while watching France vs Portugal on TV. Cloudy, reddish brown in colour topped with a small, but lasting brownish head. Aroma of wheat and dark chocolate. The flavour combines lots of sweet, roasted malts with an yeasty backbone. Medium bodied and dry mouthfeel. A bit too carbonated. OK.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Great dark brown colour with thick beige head. The aromas are limited,, mostly a caramel tone. It has low carbonation with good creamy texture. The taste is caramel that is roasted, lending some bitterness from that.

Pours a murky brown. Very fizzy and not very palatable for me. Give me a Weizen or give me a Bock, but don’t mix them, dagnabbit!
