COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lovers of strong beer need not worry that ERDINGER Weissbier Pikantus 'dark bock beer' is going to be too sweet, as is the case with so many bock beers. Despite the higher alcohol content, the Erding brew masters have succeeded in retaining the special Pikantus taste.

Murky, muddy water appeareance. Medium off-white head with a great lacing. Cerealish aroma, sugar, coffee, some tartness and slightly alcoholic. Flavor is bitter, somewhat fruity. Juicy texture, softly carbonated.

Pours a deep, murky brown color. Head is huge creamy beige. It diminishes really slowly and leaves a thin film and a nice lacing. Aroma is very malty with clear notes of caramel, some herbs, wheat, cognac or maybe rum and plums. Everything ornamented with hints of cinnamon, raisins and red grapes. Low hop presence. I’m seduced. Flavor is rich, sweet with high malty presence and very fruity. It has notes of liquor, plums, blueberries, figs and touches of port wine. Body is big with the texture of a fruit nectar. Low carbonation. Finish is long, strong and alcoholic. It leaves a lingering aftertaste. A very pleasant beer of a new style for me.

500 ml bottle from Beers of the World in Rochester, NY (October 2006) consumed from a Ramstein weizen glass at cellar temperature, November 2006. Musty dark walnut in color, impossibly immense and lasting fluffy light tan-brown bubbly head, huge chunky tufts of lacing, magnificent....chocolaty notes, a bit of wine and raisins in the nose, spices rather faint, faint fruity esters, pleasant enough but without real depth or power....much nice on the tongue, cocoa both milky and bittersweet, lightly sour and bready, thick nicely unfiltered mouthfeel, vanilla and a bit of mushy cooked banana in the middle changing to darker, charred/burnt malts at the finish....strong but supple, fluffy carbonation. Very, very nice on the whole.

Cloudy, dark brown, big tan head, great looking beer, wheat, yeast, banana, dough, and light citrus aroma, flavor is malty, rich, lots of banana, wheat, yeast. Slightly astringent mouthfeel, but not overly unpleasant. Nice beer.

Dark, muddy brown with hints of olive grey: visually one of the least attractive beers I’ve seen. Hence an unprecedented ’1’ for appearance. Sweet, malty aroma with banana - really rather nice. Very fizzy. Almost unpleasantly so. Taste has liquorice and lots of alcohol. Bitterness in the finish seems overwhelmed by everything else. Odd beer. Curiously appealing.

Poured the color of Pepsi with a large-bubbled head. That head quickly went away and had no lacing. Aroma is slightly malty and slightly alcoholy with some wheat in the background. Hint of darkrum/fruit followed by wheat. Crisp and light feeling but not really my style.

Bottle. Hazy brown beer with a big beige head. Clove, banana, caramel, and wheat aroma. Yeasty, wheat, slight toffee flavor. Richer bodied. Lingering caramel and spice fading to wheat.

Bottle. Strong strawberry aroma. The color was a swampy green brown with a big off-white head. The flavor had lots of licorice. You could feel the alcohol, this beer wasn’t as balanced as it could be. It even had a little bit of a metallic aftertaste. Despite all that I still liked it.
