COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lovers of strong beer need not worry that ERDINGER Weissbier Pikantus 'dark bock beer' is going to be too sweet, as is the case with so many bock beers. Despite the higher alcohol content, the Erding brew masters have succeeded in retaining the special Pikantus taste.

Darkbrown colour with large offwhite head. Malty aroma with some underlying sweetness. Very toasted flavour, almost ’pikant’ indeed. Overwhelms a bit, but enough room for some pleasing sweetness. Bit strange brew but enjoyable.

Highly carbonated, poured with large off-white head that was fully diminishing. Didn’t last very long. Color is choclatey brown, almost cola like. Nose is chocolate malt. Taste is roasted caramel and molasses with a hint of slight bitterness, slight warming effect. Not a very complex WeizenBock, but the finish lasts for a while and is quite plesant.

UPDATED: DEC 23, 2005 Large beige head. Ugly misty grey/brown colour (like old dishwater). Lovely aroma of yeast, fruit and caramel. Caramel in the flavour too, bread and notes of bananas and nuts. Warm and balanced finish. Can’t give it higher ratings of the grounds of of the strange colour.

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2006 Dark burgundy-brown with a fizzy and airy head that reduced to a thin but persistant level. Aroma of caramelised over-ripe bananas and some vegemite. Somewhat dry flavour, with not a whole lot going on. Good palate, with a healthy carbonation level, and a nice full aftertaste. The alcohol is very well contained, and complements the other characteristics of the beer.

My first pour procured a HUGE & spongy initial head, while subsequent pours found the head fizz away like soda. Its’ body mimmicked cola with a sepia/caramel-color and streaming carbonation. Aromas started bland with caramel and grain alcohol, but opened up to find banana, leather, apricot preserves and maple syrup. I enjoyed this beer with a meal and found the flavor to be sweetly malted & slightly earthen with prominent alcohol... having an overcarbonated mouthfeel and a dry, astringent finish. Initially disappointing, warming brought out the character that I was hoping to find.

Fantastically frothy, whipped, mountainous creamy-colored head. Deep maroon to caramel-brown hue is hazy and has sparkling carbonation. Very sharp and spicy aroma at first; cloves, pepper, and cinnamon. Behind that, a very woodsy theme of oak bark and green undergrowth. Notes of dark bread (pumpernickel?), walnuts, bananas and dates emerge as this beer warms. Very earth and much different than I was expecting. Starts sweeter than the aroma would indicate with some nice caramel and bread flavors and a touch of acidity but no sourness. Finishes sweet as well with a bit of spice and the light tartness of maraschino cherries. Tasty, but a bit simplistic. Medium-full body but the mouthfeel just misses "creamy" and hits "slick" instead. Carbonation is mitigated by the density of this beers and comes across as no more than average. Different, interesting, but not dynamic.

Big off white fluffy head - which diminishes fast into a small layer. Dark murky brown color. Roasted malt and yeast nose - also some chocolate, nutmeg and bandaid. Quite delicious nose Slightly sweet taste with some banana and bread dough. Warming and smooth while the alcohol stays nicely behind.

Big disappointment for me. Tastes more like a schwarzbier than a weissebock. Coming from Erdinger this was a big let down, for me.

Roasted malt nose, yeast, raisins. Dark brown color, low fizzy beige head. Full malt body with caramel and chocolate, some yeast, syrup and nuts too. Later toffee and then a hint of coffee bitterness. Chewy, fat body. Big beer and great balance. Well done.

500ml bottle from Pitfield Beer shop. Black beer, thin beige head. Nice dark wheat beer with good malts, choc and liquorice. More liquorice in mouth with a mild oily feel. Molasses on end. Bit over carbonated. Choc nose is quite intense.
