COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lovers of strong beer need not worry that ERDINGER Weissbier Pikantus 'dark bock beer' is going to be too sweet, as is the case with so many bock beers. Despite the higher alcohol content, the Erding brew masters have succeeded in retaining the special Pikantus taste.

Bottled. Dark brown, nearly black pour with a dirty ruby tinge and thin wisp of a soapy head. Malty aromas are quite bland and gnerally one-dimensional with a slightly metallic quality. Just a touch of cinnimon and raisin toast accompany a lightly spiced prune, but not strong enough to be pleasant. Slightly thick, bubbly texture with a roasted flavor. Some of the wheat comes through on the palate, but could really use a stronger presence to enhance the fruitiness. Just a touch of banana noted. Subtle smack of chocolate covered banana. Not quite aggressive enough to be given overly impressive ratings from me, but also inoffensive and highly drinkable.

Bottle. Man.. This is a great beer. It has many of the qualities and spicyness of a "Belgian brune". And at the same time it is still a weissbeer. Nice big lasting head. Great taste. Best weissbeer i ever had.

Very nice beer. Pours a dark brown with a typically big wheat beer head. The usually fruity wheat beer flavors (apple, banana, etc) are not really present, and this beer tastes more like a Doppelbock then a Weizenbock. Very malty, with a smooth finish, and a bit of a thick feel on the tongue. A very good beer

Very cloudy brown beer with medium sized tan brown head. This flavor has a complex sweet taste with a slight bitter aftertaste.

Deep murky brown with a slight tan head, this brew has a thick malty nose redolent with apple butter and bread aromas. Active carbonation typical of a wheat beer is present, and an oily slickness coats the tongue. A slight tartness on the end reigns in the maltiness and leaves your tongue aching for more. May I have some more please!

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2006 Bottle 0.5l. Brown hazy colour with large and lasting off-brown head; sufficient lacing. Complex malt aroma with notes of prune, banana, cloves; alcohol is distinguishable. Flavour is initially sweet with acidic notes, then turns to a moderately bitter finish; peppery alcohol notes are also present in the finish together with toasted coffee notes and a moderate harshness. Medium-round body with an oily texture; lively carbonation. Very good beer.

Muddy brown color with great head. Malty flavor with a bitterness not so common in weizen bock.

Deep, semi-hazy and dark ruby brown in color with an icy white head branching off to a thick, off-white rung. Beautiful aromatic symphony of brown sugar, spicy toffee, golden raisins, figs, prunes and an encore of banana brand muffins. Some suggestions of tree trunks lacquered with brandy. Flavor ignites with apple butter, cinnamon, nutmeg and brown bread. Sweet dough composure truncated by peppery phenols. Walnut shells and hazelnut sheafs. Distant unrefined cocoa powder and chocolatey toffee chews meld well with tobacco and cola syrup. Poignant carbonation stings early on, but a warming, boldly uplifting presence perseveres. Effervescence is mostly refreshing. Light molasses surfaces in the finish along with honey-drizzled, brown-sugared bran flakes and dried, peppered bananas. Quite an unexpected surprise.

Sort of disappointed with this one. Doesn’t seem to represent the style well. Watery with an alcohol taste and and an unbalanced bitterness shining through the malt flavors.

Brownish colour with a medium fully lasting light brown head. Powerful aroma and taste. Good palate.
