Lovers of strong beer need not worry that ERDINGER Weissbier Pikantus 'dark bock beer' is going to be too sweet, as is the case with so many bock beers. Despite the higher alcohol content, the Erding brew masters have succeeded in retaining the special Pikantus taste.

Bottle. Pours cloudy opaque deep cola brown with big light tan head, vanishing to a 5mm full frothy coverage. Sweet malt aromas support banana and light clove notes. Light bready dough and grains also. Medium body, light noble bitterness, big sweetness, medium high carbonation, finishing malty sweet -munich malts, chocolate, bready doughy yeast, light banana and clove. Satisfying brew.

Dark brown beer, small tan head, spotty lacing. Nose is nutty, caramel, malt, some dust. Flavor is wheaty, bready, sweet caramel, hay. Touch of alcohol in the finish along with wheat. Not bad, but not that interesting. Well made though.

0,5L bottle (from BeerExpress, Tallinn). Pours copper with beige-light brown head. The head stays. Aroma is sweet, caramel, fruits, almost chocolate like notes. Flavor is very sweet, caramel, candy, fruits. Body is surprisingly thin for the ABV. Finish has some alcohol warmth. Overall: maybe a little bit too sweet, but still a nice brew.

I’m not a fan of dark beers, but this one is very safe. Has a pleasant taste, nice smell, good looking. Would definitely drink on almost any occasion.

Dark nutty brown with a thin rocky light tan head. Nice toasted malt nose with a bit of bock-tinged sugariness and earthy dry toffee. Generally very bock-y aroma. Smooth and balanced flavor with earthy toffee, a bit of toasted bread, a kiss of nuttiness and a touch of mayble clove? Robust and rich but also a touch one-dimentional. Basic bock action here, though maybe less doughy/bready than other bocks. I mean, obviously it’s a weizen bock but theres not a terrible amount of weizen to the flavor. But still, pretty great all around.

Dark golden - light brown colour with creamy head. Aroma and flavour of caramel, bananas, fruits. Little presence of alcohol but in second half of a bottle it become somehow watery. In comparison with the best weizen bocks is an average beer.
