Lovers of strong beer need not worry that ERDINGER Weissbier Pikantus 'dark bock beer' is going to be too sweet, as is the case with so many bock beers. Despite the higher alcohol content, the Erding brew masters have succeeded in retaining the special Pikantus taste.

I have had this many times over the years. A favorite in a pub overlooking the dom in Bamberg, germany. Nice dark appearance with a roasty chocolate taste. Love the bock beer taste.

I got this in a sampler with 5 different Erdinger products and a glass. Of the 5, this was the best one. It had a bit of sweetness and strength that reminded me of a doppelbock. Being a wheat beer, it certainly had a thick and foamy head and took a bit of patience to pour. I was well rewarded for this patience with a slightly complex and delicious beer.

500ml Bottle: Pours a murky brown with large tan head that persists. Aroma of caramel and toffee with a slight malty finish. Tastes of caramel and toffee with low bitterness. Medium to light bodied with slight alcohol warmth. Carbonation is medium. Overall a pleasant bock beer.

Color marron oscuro turbio. Espuma abundante y amarronada aunque con poca retencion. Aroma predominante a clavo de olor, luego frutal a naranja y algo a banana. Sabor maltoso, trigo, pan, tostado, caramelo, nueces, banana, frutos oscuros. Buen cuerpo, suave para tomar, carbonatación media alta con final seco. Esconde muy bien sus 7,3% de alc.

0.5 l bottle served in a weizen glass. Pours deep brown with thick foamy beige head. Sweet and roasted malts, grains, cereal and fruity notes in aroma and taste. Short sweet finish, medium to heavy body and lively carbonation. Complex, heavy brew, very pleasant.

Ceramic mug at Prien an Chiemsee. Sweet malty weizen taste, malty aroma with fruity notes. Taste is sweetish but rather balanced, it has a sharp dry edge, light bitter, supposedly neatly hopped. Full bodied, thick texture, carbonated. A bit difficult at first bug goes down pretty well, not my favorite in the style but solid.

Bottle from Willows Market in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is molasses, wet dark breads. Taste is bready, malty...not picking up much of the banana. Seemed a little subdued in flavor, will try again.

Bottle. Hazy, dark brown with a light brown head. Aroma: Malt nuts, bread, light banana. Very light clove. Flavour: Medium-light banana, toasted banana bread. Light clove. Medium-dry finish with lingering banana bread. Mouthfeel: Light body. Medium-high carbonation. Overall: Head retention is low for this style of beer. Aroma and flavours are both very light.
