COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a slightly darker color and slightly higher alcohol content than the classic ERDINGER Weissbier 'with fine yeast', the 'winter brew' offers a really pleasant change at the coldest time of the year, a time when we like to treat ourselves to something special. Available between November and February.

Pours a hast dark golden orange color with golden straw edges and a frothy, three finger white foam head that very slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Possibly over carbonated with great retention, taking a long time to settle and leaving chunks of soapy lacing behind. Earthy, zesty spice aroma with hints of pepper, clove and cardamom followed by bready yeast, bubble gum and citrus. The peppery spice really stands out as it warms but is nicely countered by the yeast, banana and citrus zest notes. Lots of peppery lemon and orange peel in there. I’m not really sure what makes this a winter wheat beer. Maybe the heavy spice profile but it’s not very different from a traditional take on the style. On the fuller end of medium body with soft carbonation and a strong peppery spice presence that lingers over the yeast, light fruit and citrus zest into a sweet, slightly dry finish. Refreshing zesty spice character with hints of clove, coriander, ginger and white pepper, and while it dominates the palate, it’s isn’t too strong or overpowering, letting the other notes come through. There’s a prominent bready yeast flavor mid-palate with hints of bread, banana and bubblegum. Crisp, zesty citrus sweetness toward the finish with lemon spritz and orange rind. Complex yet well balanced and very easy to drink. A really refreshing classic wheat beer with a great zesty spice presence that’s countered by just the right amount of yeast and citrus sweetness.

Igazi téli különlegesség, snowboardozás után egy hüttében nincs is felüdítőbb mint egy Schneeweise.

Bottle:   Dirty orangish straw, frothy white head, spotty lacing.   Nose is wheaty, with faint spices of clove.   Not as pronounced as other German Hefeweizens.   Similar on the tongue.   Not much banana or bubble gum flavors.   Just a smidgen of clove.   Moderate to fully body and mouthfeel.   Wheaty finish, a touch musty, with a bit of clove.   Decent beer, but not as flavoful as others.   Really likes the spiciness of most German examples.

Erdinger bid for a Christmas beer is this Schneeweisse, which is a typical hefeweizen being only a little more spicy than usual. Perhaps due to the use of some extra wheat malt? I do not know, because I have no great knowledge of brewing, but Christmas beer offers usually at little extra of something. Personal I think it’s pretty good, just because banana sweetness is not as pervasive as in other hefeweizen.

Bottle, 500ml. A golden beer with a big frothy head and a lot of gas. Aroma is of canned corn, wheat and maybe even soap. Taste is bitter, but very mild. Almost no character. Very watery with some carbonation and almost no astringency.

Pours rusty orange with ridiculous head. Tastes a whole lot like Icehouse or any other beer served at a low-end frat party. Really disappointing.

Vaahtoyllätys, lieneekö pullo huonosti säilytetty. Samea ja väriltään kauniin kullankeltainen. Mieto tuoksu ja maku, erittäin kevyt lager. (20.12.2014)

Bottle 50cl. Hazy to cloudy pale amber color, a lot of tiny bubbles, large frothy off-white head, recedes slowly, good lacing; yeasty and fruity aroma, peach, apricot, orange peel, wheat; taste medium sweet and light sour, fruity, bit wheat; light body, watery texture, average carbonation, aftertaste begins mild sweet and sour, light bitterness joins towards the finish, spicy notes; a rather thin Hefeweisse, that lacks real yeastiness in taste and aftertaste.
