ERDINGER Urweisse – in good old Bavarian tradition
A cause for celebration among weissbier fans!
A particularly strong, spicy aroma, a distinctive yeast flavor and an unmistakable top-fermenting beer profile - these are the characteristics of ERDINGER’s new family member in good old Bavarian tradition. The recipe for Urweisse dates back to the brewery’s founding days over 120 years ago. It owes its distinctive, traditional weissbier flavor to a special malt, a different hop variety and a special yeast.
And as appearance is just as important, Urweisse has been given its own special look - which will especially please all friends of the "good old Bavarian tradition". The label features the historic "Beautiful Tower" of Erding. The Euro bottle and original glass awake memories of days gone by. The new crate is also particularly eye-catching with its historic wooden look and "scorched" lettering.
Best is to simply taste it for yourself! ERDINGER Urweisse is available in Bavaria from January 1, 2008 and from February 1 in Baden-Württemberg. Presentation cartons are available in the ERDINGER Fan Shop from January onward.

eduardovl (940) - SWITZERLAND - OCT 14, 2014
UPDATED: DEC 16, 2014 500ml bottle served in a Weizen glass. A: Pour a nice orange hazy color forming a traditional big and creamy weissbier white head. Good retention and lots of lacings formed and left in the glass S: Sweet and fruity. Strong notes of sweet malts and wheat. Traditional notes of banana esters and clove. Bready and a bit earthy. Very light notes of flowery hops T: Slightly sweet start. Notes of sweet malts, wheat, banana and clove. Very bready taste. Maybe a bit too mild taste of malts M: Very smooth and creamy nevertheless, light body. Medium carbonation. Bready aftertaste O: Great drinkability. Easydrinking as a German Weissbier has to be. Practically no bitterness (as expected). Good [ BA Review @ 6/5/2014 ]

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 15A). Bottle 50 cl - Batch L211107. AROMA: wheat malt profile dominates. low to no esters (bubblegum and banana). some yeast aroma. APPEARANCE: light amber color and hazy. slight ivory average head with good retention. FLAVOR: strong wheat profile with some bready yeast notes. none to very faint esters or phenols. PALATE: medium-light body and high carbonation. OVERALL: a weizen that lacks the traditional aromas of banana and vanilla.

Cloudy amber color, medium sized firm off-white head. Very nice wheat and banana aroma, taste is slightly weaker. Medium to heavy sweetness. Thin body, lively to fizzy carbonation. Has potential, but it’s over carbonated.

Pours a light orange with one finger white head with decent lacing. Aroma is of banana bread, bubble gum, wheat bread, cloves, and some spicy hops. Taste is pretty similar to the aroma. Has a medium-light body with a semi creamy mostly sweet, semi dry, medium finish. Overall, a pretty nice hefe that is both complex and drinkable.

Bottle. Pours a beautiful hazy amber with very thick, dense and foamy off-white head.Nose has mild pleasant esters of banana bread, vanilla, toffee and fresh milled grain. Flavor is a touch sweeter than most weisse beers, some spice upfront along with caramel flavors - just a note of mediciney flavor as well. Finishes with light hop resins and a touch of alcohol. Best with the residual yeast washed into the beer - my last tastes were after this and brought a lot more richness and spiciness to the flavors already mentioned and knocked this from a 3.5 to a 3.9.
