ERDINGER Urweisse – in good old Bavarian tradition
A cause for celebration among weissbier fans!
A particularly strong, spicy aroma, a distinctive yeast flavor and an unmistakable top-fermenting beer profile - these are the characteristics of ERDINGER’s new family member in good old Bavarian tradition. The recipe for Urweisse dates back to the brewery’s founding days over 120 years ago. It owes its distinctive, traditional weissbier flavor to a special malt, a different hop variety and a special yeast.
And as appearance is just as important, Urweisse has been given its own special look - which will especially please all friends of the "good old Bavarian tradition". The label features the historic "Beautiful Tower" of Erding. The Euro bottle and original glass awake memories of days gone by. The new crate is also particularly eye-catching with its historic wooden look and "scorched" lettering.
Best is to simply taste it for yourself! ERDINGER Urweisse is available in Bavaria from January 1, 2008 and from February 1 in Baden-Württemberg. Presentation cartons are available in the ERDINGER Fan Shop from January onward.

hazy amber golden color. Excellent nose of bananas, cloves and apples. Well balanced, light clovely. Def a step above their regular hef offering. Refreshing bananny finish. Nice

5.2% cloudy gold with a thin head, usual wheat beer aroma, very similar taste to the standard Erdinger but slightly more intense.

50 cl bottle @ home, BBE 10/2011
Lots of foam when pouring, but all fits in one glass anyway. Some yeast particles in the glass. Aroma has bubblegum, some banana, wheat and tartness. Flavour is a bit thin, tart and somewhat dry with banana, bubblegum and wheat. A bit too much CO2 on palate. Refreshing and balanced, but a bit thin.

Classic German style 50cl bottle pours nearly opaque copper / grapefruit / gold with full off white head. The aroma is full of bananas, apples, apricot and peaches as well as a slight saltiness that adds rather than subtracts from the experience. The taste has some grainy malt notes that quickly run into banana, some apricot, pear and a touch of lemon too.

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2014 RB says this is my 100th HW. Bottle by 06-2012. Great nose, heavy wheat and yeast, mineral water, and strong banana/phenol mix. Hazy orange body with a rocky off-white head. Taste somewhat sweet but dries out, a little bread sneaking in after the hard carbonation stings the front. Orange peel and low bitterness, typical HW notes from the nose are way backed off. Medium body made full by the aggressive, airy carb. Wheat aftertaste lasts. Well-made, but not revelatory. [2011.10.27: 3.5]

Nose really is distinctive, superheavy wheat and HW yeast, inviting for the initiated but might scare off a few n00bz. Tons of carbonation, very refreshing, and probably worth a recommendation. Phenol-poor with avg to above-avg esters, extremely bready to the point that the grains start to come through (though not to its detriment). Really pretty dry save for the thrust of citrus, which seems to be its sole sweetening agent. Standing by the old score; it’s very good in many ways, but is just missing that top-end appeal. 500ml bottle reviewed at home:
A good mix of wheat, a little banana, clove & a faint hint of grainy alcohol but nothing off-putting. There is some citrus & vanilla in the background that round off this rather complex smelling beer quite nicely.
Cloudy orange colour with a large, three fingers sized head that is white & foamy in texture. Retention is good as it slowly reduces to about a fingers width.
The taste has stronger citrus notes to it & a nice amount of wheat, banana & a nice bit of spice as well. Not quite as pleasant as the smell in my opinion but still a great beer to drink.
Medium bodied with high carbonation without seeming overly gassy. The drink is smooth & low on bitter with a good overall feel to it.

A great hefeweizen here & one of the nicest beers I have tried in a while. Very drinkable with a wonderful taste & an even better aroma. Not the most exciting example of the style but a solid & very enjoyable beer.

50 cl bottle. BBE 10/2011
Pours cloudy orange colour with large foamy head. Aroma of light citrus, apricot, some wheat, herbal notes, distant spices and yeast. Flavour of apricot, light citrus, yeast, distant notes of hay and herbs, some spices finish up the taste nicely. Somewhat crisp palate, lots of CO2 and mild bitter finish. Well balanced brew and not too sweet.

10 cl. sample from 0,5 l. bottle. Lightly hazy yellow colour with a big, white head, very creamy-foamy. Fruity and yeasty aroma, lightly sweet with a hidden sourness, malts and grapefruits. The taste is quite sour for a hefeweizen but still refreshing, trough. Medium body with a lively carbonation. Dry and short finish.
