ERDINGER Urweisse – in good old Bavarian tradition
A cause for celebration among weissbier fans!
A particularly strong, spicy aroma, a distinctive yeast flavor and an unmistakable top-fermenting beer profile - these are the characteristics of ERDINGER’s new family member in good old Bavarian tradition. The recipe for Urweisse dates back to the brewery’s founding days over 120 years ago. It owes its distinctive, traditional weissbier flavor to a special malt, a different hop variety and a special yeast.
And as appearance is just as important, Urweisse has been given its own special look - which will especially please all friends of the "good old Bavarian tradition". The label features the historic "Beautiful Tower" of Erding. The Euro bottle and original glass awake memories of days gone by. The new crate is also particularly eye-catching with its historic wooden look and "scorched" lettering.
Best is to simply taste it for yourself! ERDINGER Urweisse is available in Bavaria from January 1, 2008 and from February 1 in Baden-Württemberg. Presentation cartons are available in the ERDINGER Fan Shop from January onward.

super wheaty which gives it both a incredibley easy palate and wonderfully appetizing aroma and flavor of banana, orange zest, and a hint of apple. typical hazy weisse look, but you can almost see the wheat in the pour. delicious.

Nerpůhledná nahnědlá barva, chuť po žvýkačce, lehce vajíčkách, banánu a citrónu, jedno z nejlepších pšeničných piv, co jsem kdy pil .

500ml bottle reviewed at home:
A good mix of wheat, a little banana, clove & a faint hint of grainy alcohol but nothing off-putting. There is some citrus & vanilla in the background that round off this rather complex smelling beer quite nicely.
Cloudy orange colour with a large, three fingers sized head that is white & foamy in texture. Retention is good as it slowly reduces to about a fingers width.
The taste has stronger citrus notes to it & a nice amount of wheat, banana & a nice bit of spice as well. Not quite as pleasant as the smell in my opinion but still a great beer to drink.
Medium bodied with high carbonation without seeming overly gassy. The drink is smooth & low on bitter with a good overall feel to it.

A great hefeweizen here & one of the nicest beers I have tried in a while. Very drinkable with a wonderful taste & an even better aroma. Not the most exciting example of the style but a solid & very enjoyable beer.

5.2% cloudy gold with a thin head, usual wheat beer aroma, very similar taste to the standard Erdinger but slightly more intense.

While the standard Erdinger Weissbier is quite boring, this new creation is almost the perfect Weizen. Strong aromas of yeast, a bit banana, citrus. The look is just perfect: cloudy orange with a long lasting white head. Definitely a beer to revisit quite often!

UPDATED: JUL 30, 2011 500ml bottle in Germany at home from Wasanas. Poured cloudy honey yellow. Finally Erdinger has made a wheat beer that it can be proud of. Still a bit week but on the mark. I would go out of my way for this. This is a tough one to find in the USA but can be found here.

Slight hazy orange pour, medium off white head. Aroma of citrus, spices, herbs and some fruit. Flavour has a medium bitterness of hops, quite fresh, with subtle sweet fruity smoothness. Nice simple hefe. ^ this is my regular weisse rate. It is more hoppy than that. Which is a very god thing. +.3

UPDATED: JAN 17, 2011 Bottle from Alexander Wines, Coventry. Muddy peach spiralling with floaties, fragrant white billow. Juicy, spiced banana nose heavy with clove and toffee apple- far more aromatic than standard issue Erdinger. Flavour, ditto: all about the bubblegum, banana and clove. Why not? Thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Popular beer in Muenchen, I would say it holds its own vs regular Erdinger. Very nice Hefeweizen flavors here.
