ERDINGER Urweisse – in good old Bavarian tradition
A cause for celebration among weissbier fans!
A particularly strong, spicy aroma, a distinctive yeast flavor and an unmistakable top-fermenting beer profile - these are the characteristics of ERDINGER’s new family member in good old Bavarian tradition. The recipe for Urweisse dates back to the brewery’s founding days over 120 years ago. It owes its distinctive, traditional weissbier flavor to a special malt, a different hop variety and a special yeast.
And as appearance is just as important, Urweisse has been given its own special look - which will especially please all friends of the "good old Bavarian tradition". The label features the historic "Beautiful Tower" of Erding. The Euro bottle and original glass awake memories of days gone by. The new crate is also particularly eye-catching with its historic wooden look and "scorched" lettering.
Best is to simply taste it for yourself! ERDINGER Urweisse is available in Bavaria from January 1, 2008 and from February 1 in Baden-Württemberg. Presentation cartons are available in the ERDINGER Fan Shop from January onward.

500ml bottle as limited edition "Erdinger Weissbier 3 + 1" pack bought at Wellcome Superstore in Sheung Shui.

Looks: Cloudy hazy dull straw golden colour with ring of dirt-like yeast sediments; Two-and-a-half finger head with crumpety off-white foam which lasted for 3 minutes; Excellent sticky lacing and fizzy carbonation.

Aroma: Fragment and smooth malt, with strong wheat and tartness, banana, pineapples, vanilla, caramel, strong sugar, ester, strong cloves, spices, strong yeast, light lemon and faint grass.

Taste: Light sweet malt, with light vanilla, thin pineapples, light caramel, wheat, very light tartness, ester, phenolic, cloves, strong spices, yeast, very light lemon and faint grassy hops.

Body: Close to medium body. Quite slick and slightly creamy palate.

Mouth Feel: Pretty smooth and creamy, through not as rich as Neumarkter Lammsbräu Weisse. Very strong carbo and spice has a naughty tinkling feel, very enjoyable! Light maltyness, strong wheat with very low tartness. Light touch of pineapple, clove and caramel give it a shiny refreshing vibe. Fun fun fun!

Hoppiness: Light lemon and faint grassy hops in nose and taste. Bitterness is minimal for a mostly lemony and wheaty low astringent finish.

After Taste: Fairly dry. Smooth and refreshing to mouth.

Comments: Say if this is an “Old Style” weissbier, then it’s bubbly, creamy, (slightly tropical) fruity past from the formulaic banana and tart wheat present. It’s quite simple really, but it’s considerably more creamy yet refreshing the same time. Should be perfect for Summer but enjoyable anytime. Very nice!

500 ml bottle. Enjoyed at Munich, Germany. Pours a cloudy amber golden colour with a small head. Aroma of wheat, floral notes and quite pungent herbal notes. Flavour of wheat, dough-like yeastiness which remains subtle, toffee sweetness, mild overly ripe banana notes and burnt sugar. Medium bodied. Well balanced. A top notch weizen.

Pours a big foamy head on a cloudy straw body. The aroma is muted lemon and earthy. Nice. The taste starts with mild lemon bitter, watery, a little spice and finishes with a mild lemon bitterness. The texture is crisp and fizzy. It doesn’t have a lot of flavor but not bad.

Zlotta (126) - Bonn, GERMANY - NOV 5, 2014
0,5 l bottle from REWE in Bonn. Cloudy golden-yellow with an orange touch, creamy white head. Weak aroma of yeast and banana. Taste is more intense: banana, yeast, grains, bread, a bit metallic as well. Slightly sour. Average carbonation, medium to full body. Somewhat musty finish. Surely not perfect but a solid Weizen. A bit boring but highly quaffable.
