Beer Stories
Brewery folklore tells a story about a train engineer with a passion for the taste of Railbender Ale. With every stop he made in Erie came an equal number of stops at our brewery. One extended visit to our fermenter left the engineer in a rather befuddled state of mind. On his fateful trip out of Erie that evening, his train mysteriously derailed. The engineer swears that a huge black cherry tree had fallen across the tracks as the culprit. No such tree was ever found, but the front of the locomotive was spattered with hundreds of red sports. In tribute to this folklore our expert brewers introduce Derailed Black Cherry Ale – brewed with fresh sweet black cherries and the finest malted barley to create a truly cherrylicious ale. Please enjoy responsibly, as we would never want you to get derailed!

On tap at Cole’s in Buffalo, NY. Drank it on recommendation of Ender from TBS. Interesting beer. Definitely fruity, a TON of cherry, and it even pours red. But it’s a thick beer, almost pulpy. Not clear and crisp like a normal fruit beer. For that, it was an interesting beer to try. Unfortunately, as with a lot of fruit beers, I can’t see myself drinking a ton of it. It was still a very cool try though.

more of a soda than a beer, like one of those lightly flavored seltzer waters. sadly, other than the cherries and sweetness, there is nothing about this that says "beer" to me. would be nice if they had given it a little bit of a beer profile with say, oh i dont know, hops and malt? even the sam adams cherry wheat is more interesting than this. good beer to bring to a party for people who dont like beer though, like a watery lambic. oh well. still perfectly refreshing all the same. just not beer.

Not much to this beer. Heavy carbonation, which I enjoy, but it poured terribly, leaving nothing but head in the glass (I poured this beer correctly), and what’s worse, it tastes like club soda with a cherry in it.

i needed to tame my initial impression of this fruity sour brew with some thought about my experiences with these types of beers and the challenges that the brewer has inventing them. after a few sips i began to enjoy the genuine black cherry sour and slightly sweet taste with the yeasty and lively light malt finish in a moderate body that cleans everything up and makes you ready for another sip. for what i can tell this is a successful beer especially for the summer... enjoy one !

draft at Coles, Buffalo NY. Sweet luden’s like cherry aroma. deeper golden pour. Taste is Luden’s cherry cough drop syrup sweetness with corn chaser. Medium mouthfeel. Gimmicky

Golden/peach color. Kind of dig aroma, very intense cherry character. Flavor is mouth puckering combo of sweet and sour cherries. Sweetness becomes overwhelming. Pretty thin on the palate.

Decent light beer for the hot weather. Pours a light hazy yellow with a big head. The aroma is fruity with cherries and malt. Flavor is tart and light. Thin finish and easy to drink. Best ice cold.

Draft at International Beer Garten (Lutz, FL). Poured a reddish amber color with a beige head. Aroma and flavor were both filled with cherry notes but also had subtle strange notes of V8 juice. Very syrupy mouthfeel. There were tart moments but overall it was way too sweet for my liking. Dry finish.

very sweet, almost syrupy. Very close to a lambic on sweetness. Not for me.
