Beer Stories
Brewery folklore tells a story about a train engineer with a passion for the taste of Railbender Ale. With every stop he made in Erie came an equal number of stops at our brewery. One extended visit to our fermenter left the engineer in a rather befuddled state of mind. On his fateful trip out of Erie that evening, his train mysteriously derailed. The engineer swears that a huge black cherry tree had fallen across the tracks as the culprit. No such tree was ever found, but the front of the locomotive was spattered with hundreds of red sports. In tribute to this folklore our expert brewers introduce Derailed Black Cherry Ale – brewed with fresh sweet black cherries and the finest malted barley to create a truly cherrylicious ale. Please enjoy responsibly, as we would never want you to get derailed!

Dark fruit flavor of cherry with a bit of malt. Not too sweet, but a bit tart. Aftertaste is meh.

Murky light amber with hues of pink and a foamy head. Aromas of artificial but decent cherry, light bread, and sour hops. Flavors chemically. The cherry flavor doesnt taste much at all like even artificial cherry. Other flavor of yeast. Slightly sour and slightly sweet.

355ml bottle pours a golden color with a small white head that leaves only a few spots of lacing. Aroma is mild cherry with some cereal grains. Taste is tart cherry which is the highlight and follows with some grainy malts and mild hops. Light bodied with some moderate carbonation. Just an average fruit beer at best, nothing special.

Hmm. I don’t like this very much. Erie what have you done! This is quite weird! Why does it only taste okay? It is very sweet at first, but not in a good way. It mellows out a bit, but still is a bit off. I don’t like the cherry flavoring.

Bottled. Poured clear, bright lighter golden with a short, well-retained white head. The aroma picked up cherry skins plus some sort of tropical fruity acidity over pale and lightly bready malts.. something wasn’t quite right. The flavor found tart fruit skins upfront, with pale malts at the core.. odd, nondeScript sourness around.. finished with more dry sourness and Aspartame. Light-bodied with scratchy carbonation on the palate.. OK feel overall.. not a good beer.

Bottle poured a clear gold with a small lingering white head. Aromas of yeast, biscuit and light black cherry. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of black cherry, straw and light yeast with a crisp black cherry finish.

Bottle. A slight cherry taste; not overpowering. The acidic scent turned to a tart fruit, but overall, the aroma was pretty weak. The pour was slightly cloudy, a copper/gold, with little to no head. I found the palate to be a light-medium, not much complexity or texture. The taste started out tart, slightly sour, then the cherries came through, and the finish went back to a mix of tart and cherry.

This was decent. Hazy copper colored beer, with a thin, white head. the aroma is great, black cherry on the nose. Alas, the flavor is not as good. tastes of barley, and decent hints of cherry, a bit watery too. Sweet, tangy finish. A bit one-dimensional and just a tad too sweet. Refreshing, and smooth, but not something I would drink a whole pint of.

12 oz bottle from Cranbury BuyRite. Poured a dull orange body with lots of rising effervescence and a smaller fizzy off white head. Aroma is grains with a touch of black ferry soda. The body is loaded with fizzy carbonation, a medium body and a touch of sourness on the initial finish which gives way to lots of sugary sweetness. Flavor is sour cherry at first that fades into black cherry with a touch of cream soda and then grains. Meh seems more gimmicky and soda like then craft.
