Beer Stories
Brewery folklore tells a story about a train engineer with a passion for the taste of Railbender Ale. With every stop he made in Erie came an equal number of stops at our brewery. One extended visit to our fermenter left the engineer in a rather befuddled state of mind. On his fateful trip out of Erie that evening, his train mysteriously derailed. The engineer swears that a huge black cherry tree had fallen across the tracks as the culprit. No such tree was ever found, but the front of the locomotive was spattered with hundreds of red sports. In tribute to this folklore our expert brewers introduce Derailed Black Cherry Ale – brewed with fresh sweet black cherries and the finest malted barley to create a truly cherrylicious ale. Please enjoy responsibly, as we would never want you to get derailed!

Jacksonville, Fl. - Grassroots Natural Market - 12 oz bottle. Pours a slightly murky dark orange with a light snow white head that clings to the edge of the glass. Aroma has some sour cherry notes, a bit of cherry hand candy. Flavor is quite mellow with a touch of sour cherries, some yeasty notes, a hint of baked bread. Mouthfeel is smooth and clean. Decent.

UPDATED: JAN 9, 2014 Bottle ABC. Copper pour, slight tan head. Aroma of black cherry, grain. Taste is moderately sweet cherry, coriander, wheat. Little watered down. Ok. 6.2 Original Rate 5/22/13: 12oz bottle from ABC on Betton. Orange pour with a good sized bright white head and frothy retention. Aroma is a little of the cherry with sweet caramel malts. Tastes are watered down cherry juice. Sweet, syrupy, thin. Little carbonation. Not awful tasting - but definitely not good.

UPDATED: AUG 9, 2013 @Magic City Brewfest. Hazy amber with medium head. Not much on the aroma. Some malt sweetness with an artificial cherry finish. Update-Aug 2013 Bottle. Hazy copper w/ small white head. Aroma of cherries and malt sweetness. Light body with cherry notes upfront and a sweet finish. A little too sweet for my tastes.

This beer tasted more like a B&J wine cooler than a beer. This offering from Erie was way too sweet and fruity for my palate, and several others, accorinding to a small sample of other experienced beer drinkers at the Craft Ale House on this afternoon. This beer poured a nice dark golden color with a generous off-white head with good lacing. The aroma was semi-inviting with notes of sweet malt and fruits. But the body was way too sweet and the cherries stood out a little too much for my liking.

pours copper/orange, white head. Aroma of cherry juice, light caramel and malts. Flavor, sparkly mouthfeel with fruits that reminds me of cherry juice, light hints of sweetness along the lines of a wine cooler. Some hints of malts with some lingering bitter fruits in the finish.

the beer is straight forward with a touch of black cherry juice for flavor. it tastes more like a malt beverage instead of a straight fruit beer, nothing special but still quite good.

Draft at International Beer Garten (Lutz, FL). Poured a reddish amber color with a beige head. Aroma and flavor were both filled with cherry notes but also had subtle strange notes of V8 juice. Very syrupy mouthfeel. There were tart moments but overall it was way too sweet for my liking. Dry finish.
