12oz bottle. Pour was slightly on the aggressive side, and produced a huge foamy tan head, on a black body. Noise was malts and I trace of cola. Taste was dark chocolate, with a lighter mouth feel. There was a bitter ending and after taste, like dark chocolate. The large amount of carbonation dissipated with the warming, and I felt the warming after affects on the 6.9% VERY BIG THANKS TO DOCLOCK! Well... I am #10, now this brew counts!!

Crude like crude oil. 12 oz brown bottle, Erie brewing has to be one of the most underrated micro-brewers around these parts. Pop the lid and you get the typical mild roasted aroma of a stout with hints of chocolate within. When you pour this stuff into the clear mug there is a rush to form a head no matter how gently you pour. Big tan brown head. Big bubbles all thru the head. Most heads are foam; this is really bubbly, like bubble bath. The brew is black and dark, opague like the used oil out of my shovelhead. Even with it’s opaque looks, I can still see many streams of beautifully fine carbonation rising within. The flavor of this borders on imperial stout. It is a little too bitter for a sweet stout but does not really insult my girlie taste buds. Then it starts to behave like a regular stout but the viscosity of this is definitely much thicker than those watery stouts. Eventually the big head of foam settles to a regular quarter inch head. This sweet stout has some of the best carbonation I have had in the style. It is rare to find a sweet stout that has such pleasing bubbly tingle on the back of your throat – I like this feel. Overall a good example of sweet stout without the sweetness. The carbonation adds a dimension that is usually absent from this style. Pretty high alky content for a sweet stout.

Bottle. Brown-black coloring. No head. Molasses, wood-oak scent. Sharply carbonated, acidic to the tongue which overwhelms the flavoring at first. Rice, oatmeal, molasses flows through the nostrils at the end.

Rusty, deep brown body with a persistent, velvety tan head. Aroma of cocoa, sweet fudge and light roast. Surprisingly strong roast quickly becomes apparent in the flavor. Notable earthy hop presence that melds with significant roasty bitterness. Lightly sweet with a moderate starch presence in the flavor and texture. Ultimately, this is over-roasted with insufficient balancing character.

Pours a deep dark borwn with woody amber highlights and a fuzzy wierd looking tan head which lasts a while. Aroma is sweet candy sugar and artificial sweeteners like aspartame, light roast, some chocolate and nuts, earhty and a bit of dirt. Dark chocolate, light roast, dirt, light yeast, hoppy and bitter (earthy kinda like northern brewer, and a bit of mint. Ligth body and mouthfeel with a fizzy palate like most erie beers.

A "crude" offering from Erie Brewing. This stout was just too carbonated for my taste. The pour was a dark dark brown with a thin tan head. The aroma was of roasted coffee. The flavor was malty with coffee and sweetness of chocolate but that damn carbonation drowned it out. Mouthfeel was too thin and had the consistency of seltzer water.

UPDATED: AUG 27, 2007 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark black color with a large brown head. The aroma is strong roasty malts with a hint of dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is moderately thick. The flavor is strong with floral hops that burst on to the tongue followed by a fairly subdued roasty malt element and a moderately sweet finish.

*On tap at Calamari’s The tones of cofee and chocolate are pronounced but pretty adequate. I was pleasantly surprised with this Erie product.

From bottle

Poured dark black, with foamy/creamy light brown head. Aroma roasty, malty, with slight sweetness. Flavor of malts with hints of caramel, roasted oats, and an underlying sweetness. Light mouthfeel. Good carbonation, tingly on my tounge. I didn’t get any bitterness throughout. Smooth and easy to drink, this was gone before I knew it. This is one of the best sweetstouts I have had.

Pours a dark brown color with a nice amount of full froathy tan head. Aroma is sweet oatmeal and some roasted nuts. Flavor is sorta roasty, slightly lactic, with a tad of molases and bitter dark chocolate. Even though the alcohol is 6.9, this is definitely a sweet stout as it goes down extremely smooth and does have the signature oatmeal undertone. Overall, best beer ive had by erie brewing by far.
