Pours silky black, with a medium tan head that’s not very tall, but coalesces nicely around the glass. Aroma roasted coffee, molasses and some smoky woodiness. Upfront flavor is smoky! Charred wood and smoke, followed by roasted malts. Unfortunately, for me, the failing point is a lack of hops at the end to cleanse the taste buds. As it is now, that smoky phenolic flavor lingers far far too long. I also don’t get any of the mouth feel of an oatmeal stout either - not sure why they’re marketing it as such. I’d add some bittering hops and maybe some dry hops, save the oatmeal for a different batch and make this a smoked stout / specialty beer.

Jul 17, 2008 Bottle courtesy of beerman6686. Pours dark brown with a thin light brown head. Smells of chocolate, coffee, hints of nuts. Tastes sweet and malty with some roasty hints on the finish. Pretty good.

Jul 12, 2008 12oz bottle...aroma--cocoa and paint thinner...pours dark brown with a crazy head of brown sugar...thin body with a tinge of metal...a muddled cherry and bitterness to the cherry...some toffee and a chalky mouth feel..its ok to pound down...not great...probably wouldn’t buy again...but the bottle may be bad??...so that would be the only time to retry , but not anytime soon

Jun 19, 2008 Sample @ Village Beer Merchants Erie Tasting. Decent stout but needs more body. aroma of roasted malts, chocolate. Nice roasty flavor. All the elements for a quality stout are here except the body. A little work & they may have something here

Jun 18, 2008 Pours a very dark brown color with a light tan head. Aroma of chocolate roasted malts and some caramel. Flavor is of mild coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. Decent.

May 18, 2008 pitch black with slight tan head. flavor is mostly of choclate, caramal, and roasted malt but not an overpowering taste with little depth. some oatmeal sweetness. thick moutfeel. below average stout
