2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 kramer (3457) - Sunbury, USA - OCT 13, 2007
12 oz bottle, KSBF 2007. Poured a dark brown body under an excessively large fizzy brown head that retained forever due to the very vigorous carbonation level. The nose is heavily roasted, almost burnt malt with some day old coffee, and chalky yeast. The flavor is a little thin and full of burnt ashy malt and a light lactose note that seems out of place even for a Sweet Stout. Mouthfeel is very over carbonated, it just foams up instantly as it hits the tongue. After the carb dies down when held in the mouth, the result is on the slightly thinner side with a watery texture. Overall, this was another poor offering from Erie. At least I got this at a festival instead of buying it!
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 IndyBeerSnob (110) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - MAR 11, 2012
Pours a carbonated tan head that disappears rather quickly. Aroma of stale malt and some faint coffee smells. Taste is quite good. Cream coffee and smokiness a really lovely blend of the two. The body is medium to light which is dissapointing, the carbonation in this beer is a bit too much than my liking in an oatmeal stout. Still a delicious smoky sweet malt and some chocolate oatmeal stout that is great around a campfire on a chilly night!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Chipalsa (705) - Florida, USA - SEP 26, 2011
This brew has a deep brown body with a short-live messy head. Smells a lot like chocolate, coffee and even some earthy tones as well. Favors... a creamy chocolate body with a pleasant roasty finish. Leaves the mouth dry and nutty, overall very balanced and drinkable.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Ughsmash (5830) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 25, 2011
Bottled. Poured murky brown (near black), with just a swirl of head. The aroma picked up candied milk chocolate and molasses, paired with a little vanilla.. Hershey’s syrup-ish.. smelled like it was going to be very sweet. The flavor found sweeter chocolates joined by a little darker stuff.. light cocoa bitterness on the edges.. odd detergenty notes on the back.. chocolate came back around for the finish.. roasty and disjointed. Medium-bodied and a little sharp at times on the palate.. this didn’t quite come together.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 paultheguru (636) - Orlando, Florida, USA - SEP 5, 2011
obsidian in color. medium brown head. light hints of chocolate, deep berry aroma. tastes a little watered down to me, the flavors are great, just faint. carbonation level rather mediocre. potential is there, but it just was off to me.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 johnnnniee (992) - Bedford, New Hampshire, USA - MAY 20, 2011

Pours a solid black with a smallish tan head that dissipates quickly. Smells of milk chocolate, toffee, a slight dark fruit and a touch of alcohol. Taste starts you off with a bit of dried fruits, segue to some alcohol, chocolate, an acridic bitterness, and a long lingering roasted bitterness. It finishes like a dry stout. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, carbonation is low, body is a bit thinner than I would have liked. Overall not a bad brew, I would have loved a bit more body. There are better beers out there to spend my money on.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 SanfordBrewer (1261) - Sanford, Florida, USA - MAY 11, 2011
opaque black with a thin tan head, sticky full body with medium carbonation.
aroma: chocolate and black malt, sweet lactose, and a touch of nutty oatmeal.
taste: chocolate and black malt, sweet lactose, and a hint of licorice.
too much lactose –in the body and the flavor.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 otakuden (1558) - Vero Beach, USA - MAY 9, 2011
Appearance: deep blacks. Little to no head, thin collar, nothing in the middle. Swirls momentarily thick along the edges.
Nose: dry and brittle. Chocolate flakes, chocolate bread. Finely ground espresso and coffee beans, fresh, oily, and estery. Whole roasted oats, toasted, and dipped in chocolate. Toasted and lightly singed marshmallows. Graham crackers?
Palate: lovely roasted oats married seamlessly with delicate chocolate and toasted marshmallows. Super soft mouthfeel oozes fresh whole oats; finishes toasted and chocolaty. Truffles. Toasted almonds. Not too long of a finish with flavor firmly centered in the middle of each quaff. Chocolate cakes.
Final Thoughts: my few previous experiences with Erie brewing hasn’t been encouraging or enlightening, but I’m always welcome to be proven wrong. Sometimes the best surprises are the unexpected ones that rise to the occasion despite my preconceptions otherwise. Yum and yum. Groundbreaking? No, but darn tasty.
