Poured dark black, with foamy/creamy light brown head. Aroma roasty, malty, with slight sweetness. Flavor of malts with hints of caramel, roasted oats, and an underlying sweetness. Light mouthfeel. Good carbonation, tingly on my tounge. I didn’t get any bitterness throughout. Smooth and easy to drink, this was gone before I knew it. This is one of the best sweetstouts I have had. williamherbert (461), Syracuse, New York, USA Jul 29, 2009 The appearance is a thick, murky black. No light shall pass. Super dark brown, so it looks black. Mocha brown head, shrinks fast. The smell is grainy roasted malts with hints of chocolate. Oily and grainy oatmeal. No sweetness from fruit/berry aromas. Very dry. Nutty with mild breakfast blend coffee. Very good. The taste is mild plum and berry, followed by dry coffee. Sweet plum, raisin at first. Dry coffee, mocha, chocolate finish. Dark and dry. Love the dry, earthy malt at the end. No hops, doesn’t need them. Has a smooth, oily body. Thick and dry finish; a bit ashy. It’s a damn good sipper. Dry and ashy. A little sweet, nutty and mildly bitter. bigbeersilove (10), lansing, Michigan, USA Mar 30, 2008 12oz btl. pours slick black with a nice tan head that looks a little looser than i would have expected. aroma is roasted coffee and wood. light smoke and cream on the front, followed by sweet oat, coffee and cream on the back. very loose, light mouth-feel, and easy finish. my first thought is that as an oatmeal stout this one is not what i like. BUT one of the things i like about erie brewing, is that they try to take people into and everyday exploration of beers that they normally wouldn’t drink. i think its a really nice bridge beer taking people out of their happy "fizzy yellow" box and showing them something different to look at and drink.
blipp (1631), Newark, New Jersey, USA Feb 15, 2009 Bottle. Pours near black with a tan head. The aroma is on the light side, with roast and chococaramel malt. The flavor has roasted malts, with some semi sweet chocolate and coffee. Subtle notes of smoke and burnt wood linger through the finish. Very nice. adrian910ss (1395), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 5, 2009 Pours a black color with a small light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, oats, chocolate with mild coffee beans. Taste of roasted malt, chocolate, oats and smoke. Leaves a nice charred aftertaste. Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA Apr 5, 2007 12oz bottle. Pour was slightly on the aggressive side, and produced a huge foamy tan head, on a black body. Noise was malts and I trace of cola. Taste was dark chocolate, with a lighter mouth feel. There was a bitter ending and after taste, like dark chocolate. The large amount of carbonation dissipated with the warming, and I felt the warming after affects on the 6.9% VERY BIG THANKS TO DOCLOCK!
Well... I am #10, now this brew counts!! MrBunn (1521), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 17, 2009 Bottle. Pours a thick and dark brown with a finger or so of tan head. My first impressions of aroma are that it is sweet and slightly fruity, which had me a little confused. As it sat for a couple of minutes, it picked up a lot more dark malt aromas: chocolate and oats with a little bit of a dark fruit backdrop still perceptible. So far this is off to a good start. Flavor is smooth and fairly well-balanced, which is a bit of a surprise for me since most Erie brews have struck me as highly astringent and just a little off. This has a very nice roasted malt complex with a smooth texture and a little bit of a creamy sweetness. Every now and then it seems to fall apart a bit and comes off as a little thin, but all things considered, this is a good stout. mkobes (2103), paramus, New Jersey, USA Feb 8, 2009 On tap at Andys Corner Bar. Deep dark black in color with a fluffy tan head. Malty chocolatety very roasty aroma. Caramel notes. Roasty oat light smokey flavor. Dark fruity notes. Medium bodied. Finish is malty. Nice beer.
