If you think this beer sucks, YOU suck! No, it’s not an Oktoberfest lager like it states on the label, and no, it’s not a dopplebock either.........what it IS is a fantastic chocolatey imperial dark lager that tastes much like a huge (triple?) brown ale. Chocolate and caramel malt shines through, and finishes smooth. Aroma is all malt. A great beer that unfortunately doesn’t fit into any particular style. Erie brews great beer.

Luscious-looking dark ruby-red/amber, with a thin white head, no lacing, poor retention.
Nutty scents with some dark fruits, caramel, pineapple make up the aromas of this brew. Very pleasant nose here, makes one curious and eager to taste.
Excellent smooth and chewy mouth of dark caramel malts, creamy vanillaness, some dark tango fruits and faint hops. Good solid medium, drinkable body, with big carbonation.
An overall decent brew, good doppelbock but not even a great example, would have again, worth having once, maybe twice.

Since the slippers that were given to me for Christmas did not fit but fit my Father, he graciously bought me a mixed six pack at Wegman’s yesterday. I chose this amongst the sixer. Nose of burnt toast and sugar. Pours a darker brown. toffee tones undulate. Some real nice light smokiness gets absolutely overshadowed by the toffee. Hops are missing. Droopy, spotty thin lacing that is unimpressive. Some central doughiness gives it a bit to chew upon but overall it is a muddled disaster of a brew.

A very roasty malt that is much like burnt toast. Slight nuttiness and caramel, but with a charred finish.

Bottle. Pours brown, thin tan head. Mild aroma, chocolate, basement aromas. Mild roasty flavor, primarily sweet and malty. Thin body for a doppelbock, quick finish. Not bad overall.

Cola brown with red edges. Cover is beige foam. Aroma is woody, caramels, light cocoa. Quite thin. Taste is semi offensive sweetness, there is a thinness about it, but caramels and cocoa dominate.

Cask at J Clyde Birmingham 3/2/11. Dark brown and filtered. Nose is a bit malty but very light aroma. Taste is a bit soapy to start, a little sweet with some maltiness. Alcohol is evident. Smooth and light bodied. Not offensive but just OK as nothing really stands out here.

Pours a deep coca cola brown, with red highlights. No head whatsoever. Lots of chocolate fudge in the nose with some alcohol warmth. The flavor also leans toward chocolate malts, pretty straight forward taste, not much complexity. Lots of carbonation, maybe too much, because the flavor seems to get a bit lost. The body is medium-light offering a short clean aftertaste. Alcohol is well hidden and some hoppiness pokes in at the end giving mild bitterness. Possibly a reach, but sensing some dried fruit, plum or raisin, as the beer warms. Overall, it’s enjoyable, but mediocre at best.
