Bottle. Based on the infrequent ratings as of recent this may be an older bottle, but I have yet to rate an alt so here it goes. Pours a dark ruddy brown with nonexistent head, just a tan ring. Smell is pretty sweet caramel, some dark fruits, very malty, nutty. Taste was a much more watered down version on the reasonably strong nose. Nutty, sweet caramel maltiness, some lite coffee, not much bitterness. Ok.

Decent. Dark tasting. Sharp smell. Almost burnt taste. Initially I thought this was too bitter. But then I changed my mind, and I like it more now. Maybe I should bump this up a couple 0.1s. Yeaa erie beers! They’re getting snow now. That sucks, its late april now.

Bottle. Pours dark brown, thin tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasty nut, coffee. Sweet flavor, mild roasty bitter finish. Light medium body, thin texture. Overall enjoyable fall seasonal.

It’s an “old-fermented beer” that tastes…great! Thanks to a gift bottle from Brian Bearden, we tasted and enjoyed this PA product considerably. Pours smooth and quite dark (but not black), It smells both sweet and earthy, a toasty brown ale aroma that – as Aurelius notes – has a little sulphur. There’s a creamy mouthfeel and a taste of burnt sugar over the hops. It’s malty and although the ABV is moderate, it feels like strong beer. Good stuff, Maynard!

I’ve been waiting on this all night, based on the ratings. Sweetish aroma, that put me in the mind of biscuits and eggs (in a good way) - yeast, flour, syrup/molasses, a little sulphur. A lot darker than I thought that it would be, a fun label. When you first sip it, you get an odd savory spiciness which slides over into a sweet brew with the familiar brown ale malting. Light choco-sweetness, a moderate bitterness, a little chalky, woody at times. Mouth is frothy, somehow. Finish is grassy, with light coffee and molasses. This really turned out pretty well for all parties. Chan’s Wine World, PCB.

Bottle. Pours a bruin body with an off white head. Nutty toasted malt toned body with light caramel malts, a hint of roast and chocolate malts. A bit sweet with an earthy finish. Decent offering.

12oz bottle pours dark mahogany with short lived mocha head. The mold aroma has notes of dark roasted malts, earthiness and a quick faint pulse of black licorice. The taste is similar with various thin layers of dark to burnt malts, mild earthiness and chocolate as well as faint caramel malts. It ends smooth and somewhat dry. Nice stuff.

smooth with a bit of froth this brew is full of broomstraw and barley. strong in aroma and stronger in taste. unbalanced with hardly a hop profile it is still good news for those who enjoy these alts.

despite the lower alcohol content, this beer is pretty strong. that being said, its a nice balance of maltiness and hops. decent stuff.

Dark brown, minimal head. Chocolaty nose. Roasted and toasted malt present in the palate. The palate does have a nice body. Nutty. Different than I expected but drinkable.
