HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jun 23, 2007 Bottle (12oz). So I’m supposed to give this a 1.4 because "I don’t like amber ales" right? Oh, wait, I’m not [Ratebeerian name removed by request]. Guess I had better RATE it then. Looks decent - slightly hazy amber with a two-finger straw-coloured lasting tightly foamy head. Inoffensive aroma of grain, light orange peel, mild herbal (fuggles!) hops. Taste - bleah! - harsh bottle metal, burns off enough eventually to leave generic stale grain and light sort-of fuggles bitterness - finishes quickly and leaves a slight metallic aftertaste. Light and minerally on the palate, not much carbonation, some bitter astringency but still not a great effort. cking (1012), North Canton, Ohio, USA Jun 1, 2007 Rated 1/12/07: Simple amber ale. A little malt to the nose ever so slightly sweet, nothing else. Medium copper pour, minimal head and lacing. I swirled and swirled and still couldn’t get a decent top. Creamy on the palate, very drinkable. Flavor is of sweet malts and some honey, a little fruit along the lines of apricot. Overall not very exciting. dkoonce (880), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA May 27, 2007 Amber, with almost no head. Heavy sour malt aroma, with some raw grains. Heavy and raw, with a definite lack of hops to balance the malt. LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 24, 2007 The label lists this as Mad Anthonys APA in which case it would have scored a lot lower. As an amber, though, it isn’t too bad. Aroma of hops and metal. Pour was a nice amber color with no head. Taste of copper, some hops and sweat. Not much of an aftertaste...if anything tastes like Band Aid. ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA May 21, 2007 Nose of yeast & some subtle spice. Pours a sparkling clover honey amber. The creamy off-white head is mostly diminishing with fair lace. Pretty well balanced start. Slight spice and acidic tang in middle. Finish is kinda bitter with floral notes. Decent level of complexity. The light body is dry and fizzy. Not impressive immediately following Avery’s exceptional Redpoint amber. jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA May 19, 2007 Amber coloured body with a very thin white head. Aroma of alcohol, metal, blood, malt and some fresh hops. Light to Medium-bodied; Potent hoppy flavour along with blood and malt. Aftertaste shows a lot of alcohol and some malt but little else. Overall, a strong but decent beer - one to try if you can find it. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 19-May-2007 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. kramer (2407), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA May 19, 2007 12 oz bottle, D’s 6-pack Pittsburgh PA. Pours a slightly murky dark copper body under a smallish foamy off-white head that left some spotty lacing. Aroma isn’t the most pleasant, sort of a garbagy smell with undertones of doughy pale malts. Flavor is thin and uninspiring up front with a bland bready and yeasty finish. Very watery front to back. Mouthfeel is thin, watery, and has moderate fizzy carbonation. I had no idea what style this was when I drank this. This was boring and terrible, and I feel like I was cheated for wasting money on this. MacDaddyOJake (274), Richmond, Virginia, USA May 17, 2007 Far better than the railbender, but still not that great. Just a regular ale. Crisp and clean with some straw and grass. Bland finish with minimal hops.
