Beer Stories
Mad Anthony’s APA is named for General Anthony Wayne, Brigadier General of the American Revolutionary War. It is rumored that during the war, General Wayne was shot numerous times and that his “madness” can be attributed to lead poisoning caused by the lead filled bullets which entered his body. He died in 1796, and was buried in Erie only to be dug up years later by his angry son, upset that his father had not been buried in the family plot. Driving Mad Anthony’s remains back to St. David’s Churchyard, his son drove so fast, causing many of the General’s bones to fall out of the wagon and be strewn across various parts of Pennsylvania!

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured hazy orange with a minimal white head that goes away quickly. Aroma, faint notes of malts, caramel and fruit. Taste is quite sweet and malty, combined with some fruit and a very slight hop bitterness. Drinkable but that’s pretty much it.

Pale amber body, thin off-white head, sparse lacing. Malt forward body--showing light biscuit and grain, a touch of floral and citric hops. Medium bodied, light sweetness, moderate carbonation. Simple. Ok.

FROM NOTES: August 27, ’12. From a 12 ounce bottle into a shaker pint. A: Not very complex, pale malts are about all I’m getting from this. A: Pours a nice dark copper color with a decent head that fades slowly to good lacing. T: The flavor is simple with faint sweetness and some dry earthy bitterness. P: Light body, high carbonation. O: Not a bad APA by any means but there’s nothing particularly interesting about it.

This is a pale? There are hops in this beer? Aroma is sweet malt. Pour is cloudy copper w/ a thin white head & some ok lacing. Thin is the theme here - especially in the taste. Tremendously watered d

Clear light amber with a fluffy white head, tiny streaks of lace. Taste is malt with a light dose of floral hops midway through . The finish turns slightly sour, which is a negative. When gulped, this brew is quite drinkable; when sipped, it loses balance.
