3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
No bottling information.
Glass: St. Bernardus chalice.
Appearance: The body is a lightly hazed reddish with floaties in it. The head is creamy with a light tan hue, it looks beautiful on top of the body.
Aroma: The aroma is malty, I get prominent caramel with cherry and fig up there with it.
Taste: Caramel, cherry and fig are prominent with a bready finish that is reminiscent of chocolate. This drinks lighter than expected with no booziness.
Palate: Medium bodied, mildly carbonated.
Overall: While this isn’t bad, it doesn’t do much for me. It’s a bit flat in flavor and comes off artificial tasting.

Drank from a twelve ounce bottle. I got to go back and get a six pack. Nice malty sweet aromas. A great well balanced heavy ale!

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Bottle to shaker glass. Pours murky orange amber, fast white head. No lace or retention. Aroma is somewhat muted, faint caramel maybe. Taste is moderately sweet, not very bitter and a little sour. Medium body, faint carbonation, medicine mouth feel. Tasting notes of sugar, alcohol, black cherry and wild yeast. This beer is a mess in my opinion, it has all the elements of a great beer. If it’s an old bottle, it didn’t age well at 10%.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Transfer from BA review on 8-8-12-
Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Pours a copper color with the tiniest white head. The head was gone in a flash to give almost no lacing.
Smell – The smell is heaviest of caramel and toffee overall giving the brew a sweet smell. Mixed with these aromas is a good presence of booze as well as some lighter notes of malt and smoke.
Taste – The taste begins big of a bready and sweet base. The breadiness is of a wheat and biscuit flavor with the sweet being largely of caramel. As the taste advances flavors of toast and cherry come to the tongue. Bits of smoke and toffee also work their way into the taste and when combined with the rest, as well as a big dose of alcohol at the end, leave a boozy sweet flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The beer was thick in body and lower in carbonation. Great for the flavors of the beer as it really allowed for the boozy and sweet flavors to sit and linger on the tongue.
Overall – An all right brew, but a bit more boozy then desirable, as it makes it quite difficult to sit, sip and enjoy.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
A decent beer but something was missing flavor-wise. Nice malty caramel aroma and flavor but that was about it. Not a real deep beer. The alcohol is masked very well and I wouldn’t guess the ABV is over 10%. Had no head whatsoever. Eh not bad I suppose.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle, thanks to Micah W. Some bigger tropical fruit and creme aroma. Clear red color. Thin ring of khaki head, a loose bit of lace or two. Bigger body. Pretty smooth, soft, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Bigger bitter taste, light sweet, light bite to it. Decent scotch ale. Good for the bigger ABV. Gets more enjoyable as I go. A bit smoother, a bit creamier as the carbonation dies down (though never truly creamy at any point).

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Just had the railbender so not sure what I’m going to get from this besides probably subpar. Pours a much darker than the railbender. It’s more clear dark brown amber. Smell is sweet caramel malts, with just a tinge of sweet fruits and a touch of a sour garbage note. Taste is a malt overdrive. Sweet, caramel, a bit fruity. Decent mouthfeel. Booze shows a bit. Not much better than its little bro.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. Clear reddish-copper with a lasting film of cream. Nose of earthy toffee and light booze. Tastes of toasted grain, darkish caramel, raisin, and hints of sour apple. Touches of dry cocoa and peat develop later. Medium-heavy body is sweetish per the style, but finishes nicely balanced by the earthy peat and a touch of roast. A smooth, average level of carbonation and a touch of alcohol warmth make for a decent cold weather sipper.
