3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Acceptable for a beer to get all buzzed on while appearing high-brow and sophistimicated. Not complex but has plenty of sugary taste and alcohol wallop to make your inner beer snob proud.
Stay thirsty, my friends.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
bottle. syrupy dark red with no head. sweet, dextrinous aroma with almost a woody barrel character and plenty of unfermentable crystal malt. thick body. flavors of caramel mostly. i’m pretty sure none of the abv claims are correct from this brewery. there is no possible way this 10%. same with the other beers i’ve had.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle from the four kind sampler case. Some serious shortcomings in taste and gravity make this a shadow of a true Scottish ale. Not quite sweet enough with very little caramel taste. Disappointment overall.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle served in a Piraat snifter.
Appearance – Pours a mahogany color with a small and short-lived off-white head. The head left only a sparse spots of lacing.
Smell – Lightly sweet and moderately boozy. Some notes of baked bread and fruits, with a touch of peat smoke.
Taste – Starts quite sweet with caramel, caramelized sugar, and some breadiness. Some smoke works into the taste, becoming peaty in the finish. A boozy, beer liqueur character.
Mouthfeel – Medium+ body; low carbonation; moderate alcohol harshness and warmth.
Overall – More boozy then desirable, even for 10% ABV. Relatively fruity as if a somewhat Belgian version of the style.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Deep mahogany and burnt ruby under a meager head that fades into a flimsy film. Swirls with nothing special.
Malty sweet and spicy and boozy in the back. Burnt caramelized candy apple skins. Plums. Burnt toffee. Tootsie rolls and hard black cherry candies. Caramel candy nougat.
Much thinner than expected with the majority of the flavor in the middle. A fast finish leaves little to reminisce over. Tootsie rolls and black cherry hard candies in the middle. Slightly dry parched finish of plum and apple skins. Root beer in the back of the swallow. Spice and heat underneath. Weird old brittle wood and sawdust in the breath.
Nothing to write home about here. Erie has yet to impress and the Ol Red left me wanting to cease and desist immediately…which I did.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
A bit like chewing on a band-aid. The palate was disgracefully watery for a wee heavy. Usually such a high alcohol content warms me up to most beers, but it didn’t work with this one!

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Wow, this was sweet. Lots of caramel and molasses, hardly any hops. It didn’t really smell that great - more of a stale bread aroma. To be honest, I ended up dumping most of it. Not because it was bad (It wasn’t good, but I have finished much worse), but because I didn’t want to choke down a 10% beer when I could drink two 5% beers that I enjoy...

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear and copper in color with minimal head. Aroma is all toffee and caramel. Taste is toffee with alcohol heat coming through on the finish. Not my favorite style but a good beer that I’d drink again.

355mL from Grassroots Market is Jax, Fl. Thanks drowland for the gift card! Pours with no head, low carbonation. Clear reddish amber, deep. Nose is dark cherry, sweet alcohol, licorice mild. Taste is sugary, mild paper. Weaker finish for abv.
