tjthresh (1746), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Jun 11, 2008 From a bottle. Pours dark copper with a decent sized eggshell white head. Some lace. The nose has toffee, biscuit, perfume, and some alcohol. Lots of toffee, and backed goods. Medium body with lots of carbonation. Dry, but big and malty finish. spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA May 31, 2008 From a bottle.
Pours deep amber with reddish highlights. Big off-white head, good lacing.
Bitter earthy hops with sweet caramel malts. Mouthfeel is good. Alcohol is a bit too obvious. A very different tasting Ale. Not one of my favorite styles. Not bad, just different. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA May 28, 2008 Poured a copper-amber body with a very small white head. Mild, roasted, toasty nose. Sweet, dry, crisp flavor. Slight hoppiness and caramel creaminess. Kind of boring brew, but not bad. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA May 25, 2008 I wasn’t aware this was an old ale, tasted like a malty pale with sharp bittering hops but not much floral character. Hops gave an earthy pine flavor. Caramel to the malts, softly toasted, mild nutty flavor, but no where near the depth that I would expect from an old ale. Hops had a sharp bitter flavor, but not much of a floral quality to them. TheCaptain (526), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA May 19, 2008 Bottle, mixed case. Pours a clear amber orange, white simmering head that was gone pretty quickly. Some hops and caramel in the pallet. A hop tang with some malts and a bit of a dry finish. Had this not very cold will try it again with cooler temp.
Ok, average and drinkable. donteatpoop (124), Youngstown, Ohio, USA May 14, 2008 Poured a deep, rich amber with a minimal and shorly-lived white head.
The scent was incredibly faint, I picked up hints of caramel and malt and little else.
The taste was similar to the scent, but a little more pronounced. A lot of caramel and malt and alcohol with a nice hoppy finish.
decent mouth-feel, nothing to write home about; a little dry towards the end but nice up front.
Certainly a drinkable ale.
Serving type: bottle lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA May 1, 2008 Pours copper and clear. Smell is malty and toasty with light grassy balancing hops and a dash of sour milk, somehow... Taste is mildly malty and dryish toasty tartness. Fairly hopped for bitterness without much hop flavor, though. Medium to light bodied with a high amount of carbonation. Crisp. Average. Tmoney99 (4656), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Apr 21, 2008 Bottle from Belo Vino. Poured a clear deep amber with an average rocky off-white head that diminished very slowly with fair lacing. Medium sweet malty and hoppy aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Moderate sweet flavor with an average bittersweet finish of medium duration.
