BBB63 (4199), La Porte, Indiana, USA Oct 19, 2007 Bottle and served in standard pint glass: A deep amber hue with a lasting frothy head and good lace upon the glass. The aroma has rich caramel and toffee vapours, doughy and aromatic, hint of apple and butterscotch. Smells more like Marzen than English Olde Ale IMO. The taste was pretty much what you found on the nose, heavy bodied sweet malt with just a hint of fruit. Just a dash of earthy hops and dryness upon the finish. The mouth feel is soft and full-bodied. Well not horrible, this beer has few qualities to make anyone try it. Beerman6686 (1266), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 16, 2007 Theres not too many beers from erie that i liek and this certaintly isnt one, it had a weird medicinal alcohol flavor that i couldnt just get by. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Oct 10, 2007 Copper pour small white head that last. Aroma is bready and sweet. Flavor is caramel mainly, some biscuit and victory malt as well leaving a bready taste. Not bad but not a lot going on either. Silphium (2117), Haslett, Michigan, USA Sep 23, 2007 On tap at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Orange/amber body, thick dense buff head that leaves excellent lacing. Aroma of toast and alcohol, rather indistinct at such a cold serving temperature. The body is quite sweet, featuring breads, unfermented sugars, and lingering, light earthy hops notes. Features a touch of prickly alcohol heat. A somewhat unsophisticated medley of cloying sweetness and leafy hops. georgekappus (296), Brookfield, Connecticut, USA Sep 21, 2007 Bottle. Pours a bubbly orange with a thin head. Aroma is of apples and honey. Taste is crisp, fruity, similar to that of apple cider. Thick on the tongue and holds the flavor. This beer’s one redeeming quality is its high alcohol content. sheatripper (863), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 2, 2007 Bottles from a seemingly dusty six pack from Shoreline Beverage (Huntington, NY). I’m comparing two different bottles here. Both poured a clear amber color with a frothy off-white head. However, the first bottle had a lot of big clumsy bubbles, while the second had basically no bubbles and a lot of particles/floaties. Aroma for both was mostly toffee malts, with some fruity, almost sweet plummy esters. Flavor very malty with some earthiness in the back, but with minimal hops ("Blech" for me, personally). For further disparity, the makeup of the first bottle was overly fizzy (like cream soda) while the second bottle was flat and watery. Whatever the bottle, neither could sustain an otherwise not-all-that-terrible malt/ester flavor profile, even with the absense of my much craved hops. Overall, not such a good blind choice for me. beerlord (215), tonawanda, New York, USA Aug 29, 2007 Nice hoppy boquet, deep golden color with a white head, malty flavor followed by some hop biterness. Nothing special HighlanderOne (538), Somewherein, New Jersey, USA Aug 25, 2007 Poured from bottle. This one surprised me. Malty, nutty, swampy aroma. Flavor has hops up front, with roasted malt in the aftertaste. Creamy sweet feel. Slight bit of alcohol in flavor and pineapple as well. Finished nicely. Well done.
