Amber in color, slightly cloudy with an off white head, decent lacing. Aromas of floral and light citrus hops over caramel malts. Flavor is caramel and light toffee with big floral and citrus hops. Clean and somewhat bitter on the finish. A very decent brew.

Poured an effervescent amber with a large fluffy white head. Somewhat subdued aroma of toffee, caramel, some grassy hops and a bit of varnish. Flavor is bitter and strongly alcoholic with notes of toffee, some grass, a bit of sweet citrus fruit, but still the overpowering ashen metallic alcohol flavor corrupts all. I suppose it’s reasonably decent, but still feels somewhat carelessly made. Big without loads of character.

Antique orange pour with a small white head. aroma is of heavy malts, a touch on the sweet side. Fairly light body, a touch too carbonated. Finish is long and sweet. The malts are there, a little bit of caramel / toffee flavor. An OK beer.

A great looking nondescript ale that is on the sweet side. Drinking this on a hot day made the beer became cloying after awhile.

Rated 11/2/06: I’m a bit confused by this brew. The website calls it an old ale, I don’t sense much Scottish quality about it and I’m leaning towards a mild American Pale Ale or an English Pale Ale. Either way there is a nice hoppy aroma mildly bitter. Golden copper color with a small head and lots of lacing. Mouthfeel is fine. Nice calm taste. Abundant maltiness with a sharp bitter hop quality. The aftertaste is kind of funky. Overall not bad but it didn’t raise my eyebrow.

Bottle, Elephant and Castle in Grove City, PA. Copper color with no head. Aroma is not much except a slight whiff of sourish malt. Taste is pretty much the same, when you can locate it. This was a pretty big disappointment for a 6.8% beer that is supposed to be an old ale. It is not really even an acceptable macro alternative.

Not much in the aroma, it acutally smelled a bit like malt liquor. Kind of a funky smelling sweet malt with alcohol. Taste was similar, heavy malt with some caramel. I think this one was actually pretty bad cause it tasted like malt liquor and a bad lager. Forget old style ale, this is just a poor ale.
