A great looking nondescript ale that is on the sweet side. Drinking this on a hot day made the beer became cloying after awhile.

Rated 11/2/06: I’m a bit confused by this brew. The website calls it an old ale, I don’t sense much Scottish quality about it and I’m leaning towards a mild American Pale Ale or an English Pale Ale. Either way there is a nice hoppy aroma mildly bitter. Golden copper color with a small head and lots of lacing. Mouthfeel is fine. Nice calm taste. Abundant maltiness with a sharp bitter hop quality. The aftertaste is kind of funky. Overall not bad but it didn’t raise my eyebrow.

Bottle, Elephant and Castle in Grove City, PA. Copper color with no head. Aroma is not much except a slight whiff of sourish malt. Taste is pretty much the same, when you can locate it. This was a pretty big disappointment for a 6.8% beer that is supposed to be an old ale. It is not really even an acceptable macro alternative.

Not much in the aroma, it acutally smelled a bit like malt liquor. Kind of a funky smelling sweet malt with alcohol. Taste was similar, heavy malt with some caramel. I think this one was actually pretty bad cause it tasted like malt liquor and a bad lager. Forget old style ale, this is just a poor ale.

Pour was a dark brown with no head and not much going on. Aroma was weak..could pick up malt and alcohol. Taste was a mix of malt and caramel. Low carbonation and an aftertaste of toffee. Thick mouthfeel that dissapates quickly. Below average.

100 rater. This is an amazing feat, I do not know how a brewery can make an old ale look, smell, and taste like a bad bock. Pours light amber, almost full clarity, small head. Aroma is cheap warm country macro lagered corn-fruitiness. You know if nuts could go rotten they would smell like this. Taste is not as bad, fortunately. Taste is again full of lagered fruitiness and a not so bad nuttiness. Taste like paper as well. On the heavy side of a light body, a slightly over-carbonated feel. A rather weak and passable brew.

Courtesy of cheapdark. Pours copper with a sparse white head. Smells of sweet malt. Tastes of citrus, pepper, and very sweet. Pretty one dimensional.

Had this @ The Old Bag of Nails pub while watching the Bucks dismantle Georgetown on their way to the NCAA men’s basketball finals. Nose of mostly cereal, with a light hops spice. Pours a hazy golden. The tall frothy off-white head is mostly lasting, and leaves no lace. The toasty flavor is kinda sweet and toasty. Well balanced with a moderate floral finish. Non offensive but loose. The body is light, dry and soft. The finish feels crisp.
