Ranger59591 (8), Hallstead, Pennsylvania, USA does not count Mar 2, 2007 I have had better but this was nonetheless a good ale not really an old ale. Tastes of caramel and hops with a nice amber orange colour its enjoyable. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 26, 2007 Updated: Mar 5, 2007From Erie Brewing, an underrated local brewery. This is my first old ale style. Uncooked bread dough aroma with a little fermenting fruit hints. Pours with a slight haze and the color of dark apple cider. Only an annulus around the edge of the glass as far as a head goes and it is beige white. The initial hit is impressive with its anti-sweet nimiety. It is telling you there is alcohol in this brew. Very malty with some hops present, strong personality in my maw. I hear there are three types of old ale, I wonder which is this? Finish is lingering for a while , hints of sourness but the bitter forte drowns it out. shadey (1496), Rochester, New York, USA Feb 17, 2007 Amber pour with a head of medium sized white bubbles. Aroma is caramel and just a touch of bitterness. Flavor is a little bit of corn along with the weak caramel. Body is watery. This is a very weak example of a watery old ale. sfontain (506), Columbus, Ohio, USA Feb 14, 2007 Light amber; small, silky, white head; light lacing. Aroma of light fruit, floral and slightly piney hops; malt and caramel. Flavor is nondescript malt and caramel; overbitter; unbalanced. Medium-thin body and moderately sticky. This beer sucks. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 6, 2007 On draft at Just Sports. Pour an amber/copper color with a small compact ff-white head. Aroma of floral hops, caramel, and fruit. THe flavor is caramel, fruit, somewhat boring. Ok brew. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jan 23, 2007 Translucent and semi-hazed with a grapefruity orange color and orange soda bubbles rising to the top. Aged, brittle toffee takes the nose with sweet pea juice and corn husks sticking to dollar store graham crust. Expectations have considerably lowered. Caramel fornicates with toffee for a flavor laden with sweet caramel ribbons, weaving their way through dulce de leche custard. Minimal carbonation and a dusty hallertauer motif meets moth balls. Some melted maple fudge bricks appear later down the road. Peanut brittle, circus peanuts and chalky, chewy sweet pralines do little to promote the freak show circus act. Caramel courses through the finish with a cube-like saturated softness and a humming, noble hop bitterness amidst the battered maple display. BennyTicklez (621), USA Jan 21, 2007 Horrible. No body. No flavor. Dull malty taste and thats about it. Dont waste your time.
MrBunn (1520), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 19, 2007 Updated: Jan 21, 2007Pours an orange haze with a small head. Aroma is floral and grassy, but weak. Flavor could be better balanced. Strong alcohol is obvious, but it buries a nice caramel-like sweetness with some fruit and hops. Body and mouthfeel are more syrupy than I wanted although I wouldn’t go so far as to call this an Old Ale.
