jeremytoni (1069), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Jun 8, 2009 From a bottle poured an amber color with a fair amount of head. Nice malty flavor, a little sweet, with a quick finish. WeeHeavySD (2940), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jun 7, 2009 12oz shared by smokepot23, thanks Joe. Pours orange with a tan head. Nose is sweet, with some maltiness. Taste is sweet and malty and clearly more like a scottish than an old as I was informed this was. dmschefke (371), Eastpointe, Michigan, USA May 23, 2009 Pours a deep amber orange with thick off-white head. Aroma pretty mild, but mostly of malt and sweetness. Flavor matches with the addition of dried fruits. Pretty bland in the world of old ales and way too much malt in this without the bite. Heathen (723), Riverside, New Jersey, USA May 22, 2009 THOUGHTS: This was the second beer I’ve had that smelled sort of like Cap’n Crunch. Not very complex for the style. Not bad overall, but the balance wasn’t quite there and it became cloying over time. Not bad at first, but it go worse as it went. Still not a really bad beer, but not the greatest example of the style.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a medium amber with a small, off-white head that quickly and mostly diminished. The aroma was moderate to heavy grain, cereal and caramel malt, along with toffee, butterscotch, a little mellon. It was fruity but also a little musty. The initial flavor was very sweet and lightly acidic; while the finish was sweet and slightly bitter. There was caramel, apple, grain, watery whiskey, toffee and a little Cap’n Crunch. The medium body was watery, then a little dry with fizzy carbonation and a light astringent finish. jm37j (2), Rockwell, North Carolina, USA does not count May 5, 2009 On tap at Fox & Hound
Aroma - Good but too faint
Appearance- slightly cloudy yellow-orane with minimal head and nice lacing
Taste- unusual but good malty, yeasty and ever so slightly sweet with an unusual but interesting hoppy finish
Palate- somewhat but nox excessively thin. good carbonation level.
Good beer; interesting and unique. I’d be loathe to try and compare it to anything else I’ve had. It led to another one and the purchase of a case to take home to NC where it’s not available. Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Apr 25, 2009 Draft. Pours an amber body with a tan head. Toast y, roasted malt, vegetative with hints of caramel and some light nuttiness. Not so good. michael-pollack (2601), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 12, 2009 12oz. Bottle: Aroma of caramel and malts.
Poured orange/amber in color with a tiny off-white head that lasted around the edges. Clear. Not sparkling. Flavor is slightly sweet. Tastes of grains, slight caramel, malts, and nuts. Light to medium body. Thin, lightly sticky texture. Average carbonation. Lightly sweet, malty, caramel aroma is a bit chalky.
