2.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 Sikash (175) - North Carolina, USA - NOV 21, 2012poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a tulip glass. Pours a copper color with an off white head that doesn’t last too long. Aroma is of sweet matl, caramel, maybe fruity?. Flavor initially doesn’t have too much but ends in a sweet bitterness with undertones of yeast and fruit. Body is mild overall. Not sure if I would buy this again.

Orange/gold pour with white head. Aroma of perfumy hops and sweet malt. Sweet malt, a hinto dirty socks, and not much hops at all. Medium body with ok carbonation. Just a bit funky for me.
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 rangerred (663) - Johnson City, Tennessee, USA - APR 28, 2013
12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours a nearly clear dark copper with a one finger off-white head. Very good head retention and quite impressive globs of lace clinging to the sides of the glass.
The aroma is caramel, toffee and more caramel and toffee. There is a very slight hint of hay in there but overall, it is quite one dimensionale with not a lot going on.
The flavor continues along the same path of the nose with toffee and caramel and not much else. This is lacking the smokiness that is typical of so many scottish ales and also lacks any real hop flavor. The saving grace, however, is the insanely high drinkability for a style that is not neccesarilly known for this trait. Sweetness is very low with alcohol completely hidden and a soft, smooth mouthfeel.
Overall, what this lacks in flavor it makes up for in drinkability. Not something I would really pick up again but a pleasure to drink the one I had.
1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20 DrSilverworm (2733) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 27, 2013
12oz bottle, from Party Source. Clear orange color. Thin off-white head. Just a few loose dots of lace. Not a pleasant aroma. Big caramel malt, dark fermenty bruised fruit, wet dog, cardboard. Medium-plus body. Really dry overall. Pronounced carbonation, awkward texture. Bitter taste, pretty medicinal. Some sour. Tastes like an already-flawed beer that got old and oxidized.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 rbrazell (967) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAR 22, 2013
Thanks Tim and Rachel. Cloudy deep gold with no head. Faint sugary caramel malt aroma with touches of candied fruit. Same similar bland flavor with weird alcohol flavor. Meh.
3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 garrison (717) - Cin. city, Ohio, USA - MAR 11, 2013
UPDATED: MAR 12, 2013 Alright, I know my Scottish Ales, and this is an okay copy... heavy on the malts and somewhat specific on the hops (Chinook, I believe)... it’s still a good brew of the type.
1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20 smberry (2) - - MAR 10, 2013 does not count
had this on tap 2 nights ago from the smiling chameleon draft house in lewisburg, pa. wasnt even listed on the menu as a scottish ale and definitely did not get that impression from tasting. i thought it was more reminiscent of vomit, my fiancee agreed. it had a weird sour twang with earthy notes, not the warm, malty backbone id exect from a scottish ale. was only the 2nd beer of the night so wasnt impaired in tasting. needless to say will not be trying again
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 vexorgtr (23) - Ohio, USA - MAR 4, 2013
Nice and flavorful, but the finish is a bit too bitter for my tastes. On tap, it’s a winner... for some reason it doesn’t work out as well from the bottle.
It may not be world class, but it’s a treat when it shows up on tap in this region.
