Looks fizzy but actually has less than average carbonation. Starts mild then builds to a medium offnse. Not as strong as many IPA. Medium length rye or IPA finish and linger. Poured dark copper color with an average creamy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy rye and toasted malt aroma. Medium body with a slick smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy complex sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration.
Good brew.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Oct 29, 2009 Fantastic, limited draft only offering, from the fine folks at Erie. The rye really smooths out the profile of the already smooth Railbender. Rye makes it creamy and cuts a lot of the sweetness that I find to be a bit much in Railbender. Looks and pours beautifully. Doesn’t actually taste much like regular Railbender..........it’s much better! SO easy to drink. Strangely seems more Scottish in profile with the Rye. I might need to seek out the Smokebender, as well? Great beer. Nejhleader (932), Lemoyne, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 25, 2009 Draft @ Shepherd and Knucklehead pub. Pours a deep copper, thick head. Nose of caramel malt, distinct rye and some minor hop aromas. Taste is heavy on the malt, then the rye, finishing with a slight bitterness. Easily quaffable, overall a ton better than the original railbender.
