Thanks to beerbuzzmontreal for sending this one out. Dark brown, almost black beer with a thick and lasting dark brown head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate with a touch of acidity as well. Flavour is quite clean, light bready malts, roasted barley, chocolate and a touch of coffee. Light bitterness. Nice creamy texture. Nice beer.

Pours an opaque blackness with a thick, puffy, and well-lacing, light tan head. Aroma is mildly malty and burnt. Smooth flavorful body has lots of caramel and roasted malts and hints of dark chocolate. A good easy drinking schwarzbier, but just doesn't quite have the substance to be more highly rated.

2004 version (seal). Deep black but clear with a nice moka coloured head. Smoked malt and bitter chocolate taste , where the roasted notes come out well, and light hop in the finish. Very good body. However, in a blind tasting, this would have been classed as a porter as I tought the malts and hops where more typical of that style.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2003 First schwarzbier I have, so not much comparison basis and I must admit I had no idea what glass to serve this in, I used the Raftman one(smoked beer). 2002 version. Very dark brown body with a rather small brownish head. The aroma reminds of cookies that begin to get burnt. In mouth, the texture is very thin, watery. Very refreshing malty character. More roasted cookies with coffee notes. Interesting and I'd most definitely like to have more from the style to compare.

best I have had from this style. Aroma of molasses black, smooth without any sourness at all. Anise, well-malted, carmel, cocoasome coffee and roast highlights. Well carbonated, medium mouthfeel.

Dark black, sticky head & some lacing, all tan. The aroma is rich with roast and subtle hops, all there to balance. The flavor is creamy, light notes of mocha & fruity with some astringency. The hops are apparent in the finish but there’s a nice light carob taste that creams its way through. good!
