Black with deep red reflections. Nice ’café au lait’ head that doesn’t last long however. A nose of roasted sesame oil and freshly ground coffee. A taste of roasted malt which slides to a subtle bitterness. Maybe a bit thin but well done. A nice spring beer.

Pours an opaque blackness with a thick, puffy, and well-lacing, light tan head. Aroma is mildly malty and burnt. Smooth flavorful body has lots of caramel and roasted malts and hints of dark chocolate. A good easy drinking schwarzbier, but just doesn't quite have the substance to be more highly rated.

Tasted in Ottawa. Obtained from Depanne Plus in Hull QC. Appearance is black, with a medium white head that remains in the glass. Very non-descript aroma, slight matly scent but is hard to pick up. Flavour is very roasted buttery sweet, almost like a butter toffee taste. Finishes with a slight mellow hoppiness.

roasty, malty aroma; somewhat mild black caraffe roastyness and a bit of chocolate; a slightly detracting metallicness is there; rather thin body, though smooth, and a tad creamy; somewhat dry finish

Bouteille-Arôme de malte rôti ou fumé, saveur de chocolat mais ne reste pas en bouche très longtemps. Bière plaisante.--Bottle- Has roasted malt aroma, taste like chocolate but does not last in mouth. Thus, a pleasant beer.

Bottled. Aroma starts with chocolat and black currant but stays mainly licorice. Very dark ruby color, light brown head, good lace. Light sweet, light bitter, light roasted, mainly licorice in the flavor as well. Bit smooth mouthfeel at start soons gets thin. Aroma makes you expect more complexity in the flavor but it’s not there.

Dark with slight red tinge. Small transient head. Sweet yeasty aroma of roasted caramel malt and faint sour fruit. Upon tasting; chocolate is revealed. Beer becomes sour from middle to the finish. Light carbonation. Thin.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, jerc & tupalev - courtesy of jerc. Dark ruby-brown, small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt with a bit of smoke & tobacco. Thin body. Flavour of roasted coffee & dark malt. Finish is moderately dry, with a not entirely unpleasant sourness. Not bad.

Bottle, thanks Jerc. Ok, this is getting late in the evening now. Dark brown pour, small tan head. Roast malt, coffee in mild aroma. Taste of roasted coffee beans over a thin mouthfeel. An interesting style for sure, I don’t care for the thinness of it, but this turned out ok.
