Pours pitch black with a hazel colored head. Nose of rum raisins similar to Sammy Smiths. Thin body for the style. Good flavors of rum and dried fruits. Major complaint is the alcohol,...and I don't mean that there is too much but that it is poorly masked. Descent but unbalanced.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma of chocolate syrup, light roast, and sweet malt. Smells good, but doesn’t taste so great. Flavor of an odd sweetness with a paradoxical light palate, some roast, and a sharp alcoholic finish. Boozy without the strong palate to back it up and the flavor lacks all the nice notes contained in the aroma. A disappointing imperial stout. 7/4/5/3/12 [3.1/5]

Sampled at the Colorado Beer Festival this past summer. Three-finger sample poured a rich black with cappuccino head. Nose is predominantly chocolate and honey. Some light brown sugar comes through on the tongue, with more chocolate (of the dark, 90% cacao variety) and honey lingering on the palate. Served a bit cold, so that likely deadened the flavor a bit, but an otherwise solid brew.

Black in color...opaque. Thin head, though it was poured from a growler. Laces quite well despite this. Bold, fragrant aroma, with notes of chocolate and coffee. Roasted malt flavor fills the front, accompanied by a heavy sweetness...smooth mouthfeel. Sweet maltiness continues into the back, though mellowed by an aura of alcohol. Finish is of roasted malt, with a slight burn from the ABV. Not one of the most well built or balanced stouts...with some refining however, this brew could be pretty tasty.

Draft at SBR 7/11/09. Pours a beige head, over a clear and very dark brown (SRM 30) body....nose is coffee, chocolate, but there are also heavy unpleasant phenols....taste has some sweetness to start, but is very sharp and harsh toward the finish.

UPDATED: AUG 4, 2004 This is supposed to be an Imperial Stout according to Eskes staff. A major geyser erupted when I popped this bottle ejecting one-third of the contents. Opaque muddy black body and fading tan head. Big coffee notes in the nose. Sour flavor like old coffee and raisins. Body is thin and oily. This was a sad and disappointing drainpour. The fact that it gushed plus the sourness makes me think this was infected. I want my 6 bucks back. I chased this one with a Stone 6th to make me feel better.

UPDATED: JUN 26, 2008 Back when I had this last, in 2002, I wasn’t very impressed. Seems they’ve improved things a bit ... Dark color with a tan creamy head (nitro, I presumed). Texture was light, soft and milky. Slightly musty aroma. Very light roastiness. Noticeably hot alcohol nips kind of turned me off. Drinkable, but unexciting.
