COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In 2011, 796 beers were entered for the Brewing Industry International Awards 2011, which were held in England. A renowned jury, consisting of experts from the brewing world, awarded ESTAMINET Premium Pils the highest score in the ‘Lager’ category. This gold medal, which is seen as an ‘Oscar’ within the beer world, is an important recognition and victory for PALM Breweries. The awards and medals will be presented during a gala event on 12 April at the prestigious Guildhall in London. ESTAMINET owes its premium quality (5.2% vol/alc) to the selection of the best natural ingredients: soft water, 100% high quality summer barley, a distinctive yeast and very precious Saaz hops. Slow, traditional bottom fermentation, a brewing process based on an original recipe and maturation for a full six weeks make ESTAMINET a true Belgian Premium Pils.

Bottle, bought @ Beermerchants.com.
Pours pale golden with a fine, staying, frothy, white head. Aroma is sweet, some brewing cereal, light citric, some hay and a mild grassy note. A touch of sulphur as well. Medium carbonation, fair mouthfeel if it is a tad watery. Flavour is mild, malty sweet, some hops are present. Mostly citric ones, but also a little grassy. Okay pils.

Bottle. Blonde. Malty milky aroma. Malty sweetish flavor with hints of apple. Medium bodied. Could be a credible Czech type beer, if more hops were used.

Draft... Clear light yellow lager with a mid-sized, creamy, white head. Great retention. Doughy, grainy, spicy nose – white pepper, American biscuit and straw stand out. The commercial description says saaz hops and I certainly detect noble hops here. Light to medium-bodied and fizzy. The flavor is clean and balanced with a snappy hop appeal. Crisp, bready, grassy finish.

(bottle, 25cl, as Estaminet Premium Pils) Clear, pale golden colour with a short foamy white head. Slightly dusty strawy malty aroma with grassy and slightly herbal hops. Moderately sweet and slightly bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a crisp mouthfeel. Slim malty and shy grainy taste with traces of herbal hops; sweet-bitter and slightly herbal hoppy finish with a discreetly grainy aftertaste. Drinkable but pretty boring. 01.XI.10

Medium, fine-bubbled head over clear metallic golden beer. Dryish pale malts and some good hops’ aromas. Quite dry, quite hayish flavour, again noble hops. Finish with more hay, grassy, garden herbs and peppery. Quite slick, light to medium bodied, long dry aftertaste. Either my taste has changed, either Estaminet is night and day vis-ŕ-vis the former Bock Pils, the utterly hateful industrial pilsner from Palm. This is really nice in its segment.

Bottle from Bier Koning. On tap at De Engelbewaarder. Clear pale gold beer. Crispish palate. Mid pale malt with a little straw. Vague hop bitterness. Ok - standard stuff!
