In 2011, 796 beers were entered for the Brewing Industry International Awards 2011, which were held in England. A renowned jury, consisting of experts from the brewing world, awarded ESTAMINET Premium Pils the highest score in the ‘Lager’ category. This gold medal, which is seen as an ‘Oscar’ within the beer world, is an important recognition and victory for PALM Breweries. The awards and medals will be presented during a gala event on 12 April at the prestigious Guildhall in London. ESTAMINET owes its premium quality (5.2% vol/alc) to the selection of the best natural ingredients: soft water, 100% high quality summer barley, a distinctive yeast and very precious Saaz hops. Slow, traditional bottom fermentation, a brewing process based on an original recipe and maturation for a full six weeks make ESTAMINET a true Belgian Premium Pils.

DATE TASTED: November 15, 2013 ... GLASSWARE: Paulaner pokal... OCCASION: just returned from watching LVR’s production of All My Sons--legs were broken... APPEARANCE: tawny, straw-golden body--comes across rather faded--with effervescence of various pacing; head is snow white and lacing nicely, like frost on a winter window... AROMA: the punch of Saaz front row and center; bananas and some off-putting wet rag as well...PALATE: soft, light-bodied and swift in its descent; active and bubbly on the tongue, inviting flirtation...TASTE: immediate complex esters arrest the teeth--apple and pear, most notably--while subtle malts work the throat with a woody, pulpish effect; floral, almost perfumy experience, a beer that dances lightly on its feet, yet it finishes with some grainy/rice aftertaste ...OVERALL: as one of the four self-touted "Great Beers of Belgium,," this pilsner has some product potential--over two hundred fifty years of brewing, black and gold foil necktie, a nicely drinkable flow--and delivers with a delicately complex pilsner worthy of a second look...

Draft. Just a regular pilsner. Golden color, white head. Taste of grainy malt and some bitter hops. Decent.

Bottle from Monument in Concord, CA. Pours bubbly light gold with a foamy white head. Aroma is bread and noble hop. It has an aroma from the past. I think I had American lager with this aroma some decades ago. Med minus body. Flavor is lightly bready and lightly herb/grass. It is clean and arguably crisp. Bitter enough to make it quite drinkable.

330ml bottle bought at Wine Life’s booth at HKCEC in Wan Chai during HKTDC Food Expo 2014.

Pale golden yellow colour; Less than one-quarter finger head and residual soapy white foam which fades in 10 seconds; Moderate sticky lacing and very small carbonation; Sweet aroma of light malt, with icing sugar, candy powder, faint floral, sweet corn, light bread and faint grass; Close to medium sweet taste of light malt, with corn syrup, very light wet cardboard, light medicine, light bread, light lemon, fairly light earth, bitter hops and very light grass; Mid to light body, quite slick palate; Mouth feel is really-thinned malt soaked in corn syrup, close to cloying and hurting my teeth, yuck! Some light medicine and light wet paper made it even more negative. Saaz hops only shows up in fairly light earth, can’t do much with sweet corns. No!... Hoppiness is faint grassy nose, light earth, light lemon and thin grass in taste. Moderate and quite sharp bitterness for teeth-rotting sweet-bitter finish; Slightly dry after taste. Very sweet to mouth.

Comments: This one was thinned by corn adjuncts so much you can call it a macro Pale Lager. Much like the Estrella Damm, this is very sweet, with lowly Saaz hops that can’t do much and some slight but oozing off-tastes. Got to rinse my mouth before my teeth melted. Drain pours!

The successor to their Bock Pils since 2007, with the standard snow white head and pale golden blonde colour; pure maltiness, bit sourish accent, floral Saaz hops in the finish. Not bad, but nothing spectacular, as usual in this style. I do prefer it over Bock Pils, though.

Een van de honderden pilsbieren waar weinig tot geen smaak aan is, jammer maar dit drink ik liever niet meer.

FROTHINGSLOSH (5045) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 27, 2014
Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a crystal clear pale yellow-gold color with a large fluffy yellow-white head that lingered and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was tangy, bready, grassy and sweet with a hint of lemon. The flavor was very sweet and tangy artificial grape. Long sweet artificial grape finish. Light body. Not good.
