In 2011, 796 beers were entered for the Brewing Industry International Awards 2011, which were held in England. A renowned jury, consisting of experts from the brewing world, awarded ESTAMINET Premium Pils the highest score in the ‘Lager’ category. This gold medal, which is seen as an ‘Oscar’ within the beer world, is an important recognition and victory for PALM Breweries. The awards and medals will be presented during a gala event on 12 April at the prestigious Guildhall in London. ESTAMINET owes its premium quality (5.2% vol/alc) to the selection of the best natural ingredients: soft water, 100% high quality summer barley, a distinctive yeast and very precious Saaz hops. Slow, traditional bottom fermentation, a brewing process based on an original recipe and maturation for a full six weeks make ESTAMINET a true Belgian Premium Pils.

DATE TASTED: November 15, 2013 ... GLASSWARE: Paulaner pokal... OCCASION: just returned from watching LVR’s production of All My Sons--legs were broken... APPEARANCE: tawny, straw-golden body--comes across rather faded--with effervescence of various pacing; head is snow white and lacing nicely, like frost on a winter window... AROMA: the punch of Saaz front row and center; bananas and some off-putting wet rag as well...PALATE: soft, light-bodied and swift in its descent; active and bubbly on the tongue, inviting flirtation...TASTE: immediate complex esters arrest the teeth--apple and pear, most notably--while subtle malts work the throat with a woody, pulpish effect; floral, almost perfumy experience, a beer that dances lightly on its feet, yet it finishes with some grainy/rice aftertaste ...OVERALL: as one of the four self-touted "Great Beers of Belgium,," this pilsner has some product potential--over two hundred fifty years of brewing, black and gold foil necktie, a nicely drinkable flow--and delivers with a delicately complex pilsner worthy of a second look...

Pale golden, white head. Least intense aroma in a long time. Smells of nothing. Flat and watery, no aftertaste. Bad.

From bottle in traditional Pilsner glass. Poured clear & golden with modest head and significant CO2 release. Faint pine and sweet yeast on the nose, and crisp taste. Not a bad brew, even for a hop-head like myself.

25cl bottle. A premium pils from Belgium, although it is a common lager. Golden colour, traditional rocky head, hoppy aroma, malty taste, high in carbon, citruslike bitterness. A good lager from Palm.

I was promised wild things about this beer, and while it certaintly isn’t a bad one, it isn’t ’special’ by any means.

Tasted 25/3/15 at Trujillo, Spain. (labelled as Brabant Lager). BB 01/05/2015. Poured a crystal clear pale amber with a one-finger foamy head that retained well and laced well. Carbonation moderate and coarse. Aroma of sweet malt and hints of corn; no obvious hops. Taste of sweet caramel with hint of vanilla as warms; no real bitterness. Light body. Smooth, crisp, refreshing. Average at best.

Bottle 33cl, a clear yellow beer with low head. Nose is is on dry malt and nuts. Aroma is low malty, thin body, dusty hops, medium bitterness, very boring. Finish is very industrial like.

(Draught at Engelbewaarder, Amsterdam, 1 March 2015) Pale yellow colour with frothy, white head. Malty, clean nose with notes of bread, cereal and hay. Malty taste with bread, grain, hay and a fairly low bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Middle-of-the-roadish pale euro lager, no faults, but quite boring. Drinkable.
