black, scant tan head, bourbon aroma with sweet vanilla, rich chocolate flavor, nice sweetness, the bourbon is an extra dimension instead of taking over, a touch of chalky character,

One of a group that was being saved for a special tasting but ended up as a Tuesday night sipper. Almost opaque black body with no trace of head. Aroma was subtly coffee, some roasted nuts, smoke, oak, and a wisp of bourbon that barely supports the word in the name. Much too thin fopr a stout. Somewhat pleasant flavor but much ado about nothing. A bourbon stout, especially an anniversary edition calls for something special. This was not.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 TAR (2236) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - NOV 4, 2005
Dark chestnut. Light tan head fizzles into nothingness. Ordinary scents of vanilla beans, raisins, and tobacco saturated with bourbon. Lifeless, fuzzy carbonation. Softly bodied. Faint soured plum acidity plagues the initial sip as salty tannins lightly hug the palate. Scantly rich and overly husky with earthy malts and bourbon derived corn flavors. Fluffy nougat center smoothes over the gritty cola and caramelized sugar edges. Oversweet vanilla-infused caramel compounds the sogginess, as there’s nary a hint of brisk char and oakiness to compensate for the profound lack of firmness. Finishes unfruitful and persistently muddled with fuzzy tannins, as lesser notes of caramel, cola, and vanilla linger on. Although the alcohol is well concealed, this is far too husky and sweet. And the dull carbonation certainly doesn’t help.

Black color, very small tan head. Aroma has cherries, vanilla, burbon, slighlty sour. Flavor is malty, sweet, with faint burbon notes, a little cloying.

22-oz bottle. Pours jet black with brown hints and a tiny tan head that reduces to film with spotty lacing. Dark chocolate caramel malt with huge oak and bourbon aromas. Chocolate bourbon and sweet caramel malt flavor. Sour acidic finish. I think the bourdon is a touch too much in this brew. Dark and thin silky smooth palate.

Bottle poured anopaque black with a small rapidly diminishing brown head. Aromas of bourbon, dark chocolate, licorice, and vanilla. Body is a little thin for a stout. Big bourbon up front followed by vanilla, dark chocolate, and pepper. Pleasently bitter finish.

Cleveland Locals Gathering. Thanks to Drew for sharing! Motor oil black body with a reddish colored bubbley head. Well balanced aromas of wood, whiskey, coffee, sweet carmel malts, and roast. Not overly full on the tounge, but very pleasant flavors of vanilla, wood, bourbon, roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Pretty well done barrel aged beer. I actually enjoyed this more than most other barrel aged jobs that are rated much higher.

Black. Aroma of Tennesse whiskey (charcoal, bourbon), charred fruit, deeply roasted malts, wood and chocolate. Simple, watery texture and fairly light in body as well, definately suffering from a lack of carbonation. Light malty taste (chocolate, roast), match well with the bourbon barrel contribution (vanilla, oak, bourbon). A simplistic example overall, but the aroma was surprisingly appealing to me. An enjoyable brew.
