12 oz. bottle. Pours a thin poorly retained ivory head, with some lacing, over a clear dark copper (SRM 20) body.....nose is pine, resin, citrus peel, dreid fruits....taste is malt sweetness, with dried fruits including, raisin, fig, plum tones, some light pineapple, finishing with a moderate pine citrus peel bitterness......mouth feel, chewy, with a heavy thick body, sticky, alcohol warmth, with slight fusel tones, carbonation low with a mild acid finish. This is obviously an American Barley Wine with American hops. It is hop forward, with almost balancing malt strength resulting in a near balance of strengths. BJCP 8/3/15/4/7

10/10/2010. Sampled at the brewery. My favorite of the beers served there. Dark brown with a tan head. Malt, dried fruit, caramel aromas with hints of alcohol. Thick and buttery, dried fruit, alcohol with light hops.

On tap at the brewery. Brown and cloudy with a light tan head. The aroma is sweet and full of caramel malts and light alcohol. Similar flavor, malty and sweet with grass, herbal hops and a light earthiness. Full bodied malt bomb.

Aroma is caramel and malts with some vanilla. Pours a dark reddish brown with almost no head. Taste is caramel and malty sweet. Not as much alcohol taste as other barleywines. Very good.

Bottle from Ratman. Pours a hazy dark brown. Sweet with some dryness. Aromas of caramel and hints of roasted malts. Also notes of alcohol and residual sugars.

Tap at brewpub.<br.Pours a deep amber with a nose of deep, boozy molasses and plumb/raisin malt. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, raisin, molasses, and a funky sour note in the finish. Oily on the tongue. Not bad but the sour fruit finish doesn’t work.

Opaque medium brown with a small, but lasting, off-white head. Aroma of figs, figs, and more figs, caramel, molasses and slight hops. The flavor, again, is full of figs, sweet, but not too much so. Full bodied and a bit creamy. The first two sips I wasn’t sure, but after that it was quite enjoyable.

Hazy red brown coloured with a small off-white ehad.
Sweet aroma of caramel, dried fruits and bread with notes of alcohol and hops.
Sweet and fruity flavour of caramel, cookies, hops and pine needles.

Bottle at home - Tasting. Clear amber brown - offwhite head. Ryebread, barley, sweetness, honey notes, ok hoppy, caramel, amber malts. Nice.

12oz bottle picked up near the brewery in September of 2010, opened March 2011, which assumably makes it the 2009 edition. Faint non-hiss when opened and accompanying mild, almost non-existent carbonation level. Murky red-brown. The aroma is classic Barleywine, deep mollases soaked amber malt. A pretty well executed offering, much better fresh and carbonated I’d bet. As it is it comes off a little like watery honey mead. OK.
