2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 DavidP (1745) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 9, 2004
Black body with a smattering of tan bubbles on top. The aroma has dry chocolate and grain. I’d consider the flavor to be sort of light in that there’s a dry chocolate roast that’s sort of cut down the middle with a sugar-sweet caramel. The finish is pretty sweet, I get some cane sugar with a slight touch of bitterness.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Braudog (4607) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - APR 23, 2006
On tap at the brewpub, 4/13/06: Dark black with an off-white foam top. Light smoky aroma. Smooth and lightly bittered with an odd twist. Bit thin. But OK.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 brewblackhole (1584) - Muskego, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 3, 2004
Very light malt aroma, could never tell its a porter by smelling it, a simple light slightly roasted malt taste, with not much happening otherwise It’s like a light schwarzbier
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 luckygirl (1221) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 25, 2006
Draught sampled at the brewery. beer was clear, very dark brown with a small, light brwn, frothy, mostly diminishing head. The aroma was moderately malty with a note of husky roasted grain; Yeasty with a trace of cheese. The flavor was moderately sweet, lightly bitter with a long, lightly acidic, moderately bittersweet finish. Cheesy/roasty retros. The body was medium, the texture was watery and the carbonation was less-than-lively.
2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 dwyerpg (3577) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - JAN 9, 2009
Little aroma. I did not like this. Strainy, with a hint of roast and smoke, but not a good flavor. A little sweet.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 esjaygee (2599) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 1, 2008
Alas, a dark beer from Estes Park… hope… uh, no. Gusher of a bottle… Brown with a mammoth tan head. Aroma of grain, sweet malt, chocolate, tree bark and a something sour. Body is chewy, dusty and astringent with mild notes of chocolate and malt. Perhaps this bottle was a touch old, however I’m sure this wouldn’t be that good straight from the tap.
2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 KingpinIPA (841) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - APR 17, 2006
Watery pour. Hints of sweet chocolate and coffee. Tastes like its water down. Overpowering bitterness is all I can taste. Hey at the end I can taste a little coffee.
1.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20 arjoseph (634) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 23, 2006
12 oz. bottle into tulip glass. Purchased at some grocery store in Brookfield, WI sometime in 2004. Smells yeasty and malty with some lemon grass thrown in. Deep red-brown with absolutely no head. Sweet; not much roastiness at all; very flat (I wonder if I got a bad bottle?); not much hop character; slight fruitiness, like diluted cherry juice. Very watery with light to medium body. No character to this beer at all.
1.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20 JasonBMoore (22) - Denver, Colorado, USA - OCT 29, 2006
This beer made the mediocre Samson stout seem impressive. The appearance was weak, the head was non-existant which seems to be standard with any Estes Park brew. I could not detect any discernable aroma at all. The flavor was dark and bitter with a watery, oily body followed by a metallic aftertaste. I haven’t had many porters but this is easily the worst.
