COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Porters are considered dark ales with it's malt character from the darker malts. It doesn't have the roasted flavor of a stout. Our porter is very smooth dark brown ale.

muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, USA - OCT 25, 2005
12 oz bottle purchased at Brennan’s Country Market in Brookfield, WI (Oct 2005). Pours rather thinnish, cola-like, with smallish decaying head that leaves a slight taupe ring, no lacing...bit chocolaty and prune-inflected in the aroma, again a bit like Coke, but with some hints of dark chocolate and coffee as it warms...body quite roasty and dry, initially rather beguiling but quickly becoming quite thin and merely dry and papery towards the finish, not nearly enough malt character and a one-dimensional bitterness.

Roasty in aroma in flavor. Not terribly complex, but a nice roasty porter. Notes: Pub visit during ’09 GABF

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2011 Sampler at the brewpub. Pours a light beige head, over a clear, brown (SRM 30) body.....nose is light coffee, chocolate....taste is light coffee, chocolate, with a slightly bitter finish....mouth feel light, carbonation high. This meets the general style of a Porter, but it is light for the style in complexity both in aroma and flavor. BJCP 7/3/12/4/6

Bottle from the brewery. Dark brown pour. Smooth toasty aroma, mild chocolate and coffee notes. Flavor is toasty, lightly sweet and finishes with some espresso.

Dark brown with a small beige head. Almost indistinguishable aroma of light roast and chocolate. The taste was thin, coffee and chocolate. Body was thin. Not a good porter, but drinkable.

Tap at the brewpub. Really dark brown with little head. Mild indistinct aromas. Med body/foamy head. Light chocolate and dark malt flavors. Finishes light bitter with a hint of chocolate.

On tap at the brewery. The best of the batch I had there. Nice dose of roasted malts with a very smooth body. Body is a little thin, but generally a nice beer.

Tap @ Estes Park. Deep brown with a small head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. Flavors of sweet chocolate malt with a faint hop bitterness. This was one of the better beers from the brewery, full flavored and no apparent flaws.

Pours an opaque black into the glass with a smallish tan head. Nose is cocoa and chocolate. Mouthfeel is fairly creamy. Nice flavor of coffee, cocoa, toffee and licorice. Not overly carbonated. Nice finish. A good porter than can pair well with wild game, elk steaks or buffalo burgers.

draft at the brewpub - Pours dark brown with a light tan head. It smells of dark roast malt with chocolate and coffee. The taste is of a coffee accented dark roast malt and while alright, seems kind of dull or flat in flavor. It’s medium bodied and a fairly good brew though I often like porters even more.

On tap at the brewpub. This was my favorite of the 5 we tried. Interesting mix of reviews here. I wonder what this says about the batch to batch variances. Dark brown with small tan head. Nose is rich and warm. Malty bitter and light nutty nose. Taste is similar. Roast malt, sweetness of caramel poking through. Smooth and rich in the mouth. Nice thickness and bitterness with chocolate and roasted malt. Iwas suprised at the quality of this one, based on my experiences with small brewery porters in the past.
