COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Or award-winning India Pale Ale (1993) is a hop lovers dream. We load up on the Chinook and cascade to create high bitterness and wonderful aroma. We even dry-hop this beer to give it even more hop flavor. Our IPA has a rich copper color and lots of body.

Muddled would be the right description I think. Nothing about this brew seems to meld. Malt and hops clash. Not good at all.

Pours out a hazyish medium amber. Smells of caramel notes, pale malt, and a faint whiff of nuttiness all behind a leafy floral hop aroma. Smells bitter and sweet at the same time. Taste was big and hoppy up front, with bitter and leafy/floral tones making way for nutty caramel. Pretty ho-hum medium body. The potential was there for something great, but something was lacking, probably its body or its slight bitter imbalance. Finishes dry with leafy herbal bitterness coating the aftertaste. It’s a fine brew, tasty and all, but it’s missing spunk and balance.

Bottle from Brennans in Brookfield. Pours thick brownish amber with all kinds of floaties. Black ones. Pale ones. After a bit they even stopped moving around in the glass and just lurked. Aroma was pine, resin and caramel. Taste is grape, sweet caramel and some woodiness. Thick and chewy, although not literally; the floaties were not actually as solid as they appeared. Finished somewhat dry. Very much an east coast style ipa with a strong malt background mostly covering the hops. One of the least attractive glasses of beer I’ve ever had.

Hazy copper-orange with an off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, resin and citrus. The taste was lightly sweet, and very bitter, ending a little harshly. Medium body. Decent, but a bit too bitter for my preference.

Bottled. Poured rather thick medium amber with a ridiculous amount of sediment throughout. The aroma picked up redder fruits and honey with a hint of caramel.. some pine and leafy notes around, but not a whole lot of ’em. The flavor found redder fruits (some tart skin and some meaty sweetness) at the core, with the tartness extending outward.. light, grainy pine bitterness was the most evident hop character.. more sour than it was bitter. Medium-bodied and dry on the palate.. grainy.. balance was OK, I suppose, but it wasn’t a great brew.

Pours hazy dirty brown with a beige head. Strong resin aroma. Losts of resin/grapefruit over mild roast caramel. Quite bitter. Better than average IPA.
