A very good cream stout with a good story behind the name. Easy to drink and not overpowering.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Suttree (3927) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 4, 2003
Black Black Blackity Black Black. Man, this is a DARK beer. The head is almost brown. Can smell burnt toast and bacon. Smoky, dry flavors, and incredibly full bodied. Maybe some charcoal, too. For a beer this heavy, it finishes with some finesse. The head stay mostly intact till the last drop.

Smells like burnt dark chocolate and tastes like it too, but in a good way. Thick and coating, this is definitely one of those one-at-a-time beers, but worth it.

Samson would be proud to have this wonderful dark, smooth brew in his name. Wish he could have had some of the spent grains to enjoy.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 jebert (316) - Watertown, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 24, 2011
This stout pours a dark ebony with a small but creamy brown head. Nose is chockfull of chocolate, coffee and malt. Very creamy on the palate; nice full flavor bursting with dark roasted grains, molasses and coffee- a touch of sweetness but not overly sweet. Try it with a corn beef on rye sandwich.

Had this one bottled thanks to Slothgar! The story is heartbreaking, I hate poachers. The beer itself is opaque dark brown with very little head, lots of sweet coffe in the nose, an amazing stout with plenty of chocolate, sweet malts, and bitter coffee. Awesome!
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 flemdawg (503) - Naples, Florida, USA - MAR 30, 2003
Incredibly dark, almost no light got through this one. Almost no head, and the little that was there was brownish and quickly dissapated. Roasty all around, from the aroma to the taste. Great beer.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 igneous1 (1418) - Davenport, Iowa, USA - MAR 2, 2002
upon opening, beer had an overwhelming aroma of alcohol...perhaps oxygen tempered that...but this is one great beer with a roasty flavor

Aroma: coco, coffee, dark/roasted malts, some cream
Appearance: dark brown-->black, tan head, some lacing
Flavor: coffee, baker’s chocolate, some light cream, some smoke, light hopped flavor
Palate: very smooth, slightly bubbly, burnt malts/baker’s chocolate aftertaste
Overall: good beer, goes well with the elk jerky making tonite

Bottle poured an opaque black with a small diminishing brown head. Aromas of smoke, roasted malt, bitter chocolate and strong black coffee. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of black coffee, smoke, a hint of dark chocolate and a bit of vanilla with a smooth lingering bittersweet finish.
