Commercial Description:
This beer is the jewel in the crown of Damm’s century-long beer-brewing experience. Since 1876, when Alsatian August Kuentzmann Damm founded the company bearing his name, numerous generations of master brewers have perfected this lager until it has become a landmark in the world of beers. This lager beer with a universally appreciated character and taste is ideal for drinking at any time. Its high quality is due to the finest selection of raw materials and the meticulous brewing process. It stands out for its creamy hops-flavoured froth and refreshing taste.

This stuff is everywhere in Spain, and I didn’t mind it too much. Pale with a large white head. Light dry citrus and dry malt aroma. Basic crisp dry mouthful, a tiny bit of bitterness and its down the throat. Quick finish. Reminded me of some of those Asian lagers (Chang?)

Presentation in the glass looks good. But that is about as much as I liked about this beer. Skunky notes plus citrus and corn on the nose. Taste is not as offensive as the nose but not that much better, generally what you get for a pale lager.

330 ml bottle, 4.6% ABV export version. Courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. Also available in Norwegian grocery stores. I guess the 4.6% version should have a listing of its own, but they’re both just called "Estrella Damm", so - never mind. Pale golden colour, decent head. Moderate citrussy aroma. The flavour is slightly citrussy and quite refreshing, without any offensive sidenotes. Very moderate hops in the finish. A light refreshment for a day in the Spanish sun - no more, no less.

Bottle. Happily this beer is now available in Norway, as we lack have too few different pale lagers to chose from. It pours a clear, pale golden body with a dense white head. The aroma is fruity, with a malty background, and it is quite weak. Surprisingly malty flavor for a Spanish pale lager, but I poured it at a quite high temperature, which makes it more interesting to drink. There are hops in the flavor as well, giving it a quite pleasant fruity twist. It has a medium to thin body and a finish balancing malt and hops. Quite nice for a Spanish lager, but I am not buying more of them. It is not that good. (070608)

Rating #1600. Raise the Damm flag and play me my Damm song.

Some of our Damm raters seem to be confused and are rating this Damm beer under a different Damm name. If they took the time to read their Damm label, they’d see that Damm Barcelona weighs in at 5.4% and should be rated here, under Estrella Damm, and not under <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/Beer/damm-classic/9690/>Damm Classic, which has an ABV of 4.6%. That being said, I uploaded <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/beerimages/full size/8572.jpg>this hi-res Damm photo to try to eliminate any Damm confusion in the future.

This Damm brew poured as uneventfully as any other Damm lager, with a light-hazed mid-golden body, under a typical, fading white head. (Maybe this would have looked more enticing if I was drinking it out of a Damm glass, but I digress.) Lightly oxidized, the Damm aroma was otherwise pleasant yet weak, with light herbs atop vanilla-tinged pale malt. The Damm flavor shows more oomph, as I find a nice wallop of bittterness bookended by a pleasant malted sweetness. Bitter enough, I think, that this wouldn’t be a bad Damm Pilsener.

Since this is the first Damm beer I’ve ever tried, I have nothing else to truly compare it to, but I must tip my hat to the Damm brewer and say... "Damm good".

Medium white head. Yellow body with carbonation. Very little aroma. Taste is bitter and buttery with notes of corn. Metallic aftertaste. Generally low on taste. (0.33l bottle.)

330 ml bottle. Brilliant yellow/golden color. Thin, near-white head leaving laces. Cereal and barley-grain to the nose. Bready and slight citric flavors. Low hop level. Slim body. Crisp finish. Not bad, mediocre.
