Our Ettaler Benedictine monastery top-fermented weizen beer is with a very special touch. The special brewing and the use of selected wheat and barley malt to give together with the fine wheat beer yeast, our very own, fresh and fruity note. Salary and acharaktervoll - a wheat beer class.

Pours a cloudy orange-ish amber with an off-white head of solid foam. It’s probably a touch darker than the average color of hefes that I’ve tried but in line with the style. Good puffy head. Lots of foam. The aroma is banana wheat sweetness with a nice dash of light lemony sourness. Clove is light but present. Lots of wheaty, sugary flavor. The taste is rather mild, definitely could use a kick. Light sweetness with some wheat spice. Gets a bit watery with a wishy-washy finish. Not as bright as I expected from the aroma. Sort of an off aftertaste. Could be a stale bottle but it got to a local store pretty recently. Feel is smooth with a touch of prickly carbonation, though carb seems a bit low. This beer is mild and a bit lacking. It’s easy enough to drink, but it doesn’t merit a very high spot in my personal hefe rankings.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein trübes goldenes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch hefig, fruchtig, bananig. Geschmack hefig, bananig fruchtig, minimal würzig.

Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass zippy, nice head. Starts mild, modest yeasty, not too dry. Fine fruity notes of banana. Modest sweet. Well balanced finish. Nice!

Bottle, consumed after 9 hours of volunteer community work building a playground in the 30-degree Medicine Hat sunshine-- awesome!! Hazy golden, average white head. Nice wheaty aroma with spicy yeast. Clean wheaty palate with light banana and spices. I pretty much guzzled this. The right beer for the right moment.

Orange with a dense head. Wheat-aromas: banana and fruity esters. Sweet and refreshing ending on a dry note.

Bottle, bootlegged from Germany. Cloudy brown, big rocky beige head. Smells wheay, with a hint of rye. Very smooth palate, nicely sweet, with rye and prune and raisin, and a crisp, lightly bitter finish. Tasty.

Bottle in Paramount Club, London. Colour is toasty looking orange with big white head. Nose is yeast, banana, grain, honey, bread. taste is fruity with banana, lemon, yeast and some grainy wheat. It’s lightish but lots of flavour and a fairly crisp dry finish. Very nice.

(BB11/11) Dark orange colored, little vanishing head. Ripe banana with thin sourness, not too fresh anymore I guess, yeast also here. Medium bodied. Flavor has similar sour note with sweet banana, aftertaste has dry yeasty note, berries here too. Not fresh anymore.

Bottle from the brewery shop. Poured a faintly hazy dark gold with a big white head that vanished within seconds, and pleasant weizen aroma of banana, honey and a touch of bread dough. Typical weizen flavours - a touch of soft fruit on the tip of the tongue, then more banana and bread, and some honey and clove coming through. A touch of pear and spice in the finish. A good typical weizen, nothing special.

Test vom 26.8.2007, Gebinde: Fass Noten: 10,7,12,7,-,7 - 8,10
