Commercial Description:
The nose is filled with complex notes of figs, fruitcake, port, licorice, cherry, raisin chocolate, black toffee, coffee and caramel, while it tastes deliciously thick and chewy, with great complexity showing notes of fruits, coffee-roastiness, molasses, licorice, and toffee. This beer is a meal!

Deep ruby garnet, fairly clear, thin tan head. Sour oxidized apple nose. Thin, watery, a little sweet, oxidized apple cling for the finish. Simplistic. Neither refreshing not complex and satisfying.

Bottle. Pours a deep mahogony with a fairly think, light tan head that doesn’t last very long. When it hits the toungue, wow. Raisens, fruit, molassas, brown sugar with alcohol in back.Smooth, creamy - almost chewy. Doppleback is becoming a favorite beer style for me - I can enjoy this one even though it’s 94F outside right now.

Bottle from Frugal McDugal in Nashville. Pours a deep amber copper, with a tan head. Aroma of dark wheat, yeast, brown sugar, plums, and a wiff of alcohol. Initial flavor of raisens, dark wheat malt, figs, cherry and perhaps some subtle anise. Not overly sweet. The finish is slightly boozy (in a good way), as well as dusty and yeasty. This was good, I may try to grab another.

Half liter bottle. No freshness date seen. Poured out a dark amber color, with ruby highlights. Aromas are of fig preserves, raisins, prunes, malts, lots of stuff going on in the aromas. Flavors are of figs, prunes, sweet malts, licorice, slight hop bitterness. Thick mouthfeel, rich & chewy. Decent body. Finished sweet, but not cloying. Really good beer overall.

16.9oz bottle into a Dimpled Mug glass. Wow! What a surprise with this one! Pours a darkish brown color with a hint of a dark red. A big plummy nose intermixed with raisons and heavy sweet malts wavers from the glass. The flavor is very deep in its areas touching in sweet malt, dark fruits, a tiny bit of chocolate, molasses, and a hint of alcohol in the body. A bit complex, but mostly just flavorful all around. Pretty smooth on the palate. Overall, an incredibly enjoyable brew. Definitely can feel the 9%! I would drink this over and over again!!

Practically black. Smells sweet, but tastes smoky, alcohol clearly present, which takes over all the other flavors in the beer.

The aroma has molasses, dark fruit, hops, and chocolate malt. That appearance is red brown with a disappointing thin head. The flavor has an artificial sweetener element and a chemical astringency. There are some nice qualities like liquorice and caramel but they are subtle. The palate is thin but smooth and the finish is paper like. I’m not getting this one.
