Bottle. Rated in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. Tan head, carbonated, transparent, no lacing, and a reddish brown hue. Malty, and caramel and some alcohol notes in the aroma. Flavor was malty and vinuous. Tingly and somewhat of a thin mouthfeel. Light bodied Dopplebock,
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Jukkabro (3472) - Tampere, FINLAND - OCT 26, 2004
Dark red color with hints of brown, off-white head lasted long. Strongly sweet and fruity aroma with notes of roasted syrupy and alcohol. Flavor is very ordinary: starts with mild roasted side, ends with overly sweet and vinous aftertaste, which lasts long. 7.0% ABV is covered pretty much, comes up slightly as vinous aftertaste. For me, mild aroma was slight disappointment, flavor differs some other doppelbocks, but not in bad way.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 thedm (4126) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - OCT 10, 2004
The DM & Hotstuff’s European Honeymoon trip beer number 64. This bottled brew from the Ettaler Monastery in Oberammergau Germany poured a large sized head of finely sized off-white colored mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind a softly carbonated transparent dark brown colored body. The aroma contained notes of strong caramel malt and dark brown malts. The mouth feel was initially smooth vinous malty and finished with a lingering vinous aftertaste. The flavor contained strong notes of malt and caramel malts.

A top class German beer. Deep garnet/brown colour with a modest head. Big, nutty malt aroma, with toffee too and a touch of malt. Berry fruit and burnt malt flavour, with some licorice and a smoky edge. Not too sweet. Rich, but not that full bodied. Dry finish. Drinks very easily. 500ml bottle from beersofeurope.co.uk. BBE 30 September 2004.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 dortmunder (961) - Herdecke, GERMANY - AUG 19, 2004
Dark brown colour, with a off-white head. Very malty taste and aroma. Nuts, toffee, caramel, molasses in the taste. Not as sweet as most Doppelbocks, but more bitter, especially in the finish.

A beautiful mahogany, very smooth doppelbock that boasts a very complex aroma with figs, fruitcake, dark malt, molasses, port, and a whiff of smoke on the palate.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 JorisPPattyn (6728) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - MAR 4, 2004
Superb red-brown, clear beer; thick luxurious creamy head. Bready nose, truly great and appetising. Malts - in a superior way, and caramel. Sweetish & roasted taste, like mulled beer, caramelised in a short, hot way. Retronasal there are some good German hops. Just a bit thin mouthfeel, certainly for a Doppelbock. All the same, if this beer isn't nourishing, nothing is. This is a great, because dangeroulsy drinkable Doppelbock. Love it.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 sayravai (4548) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JAN 9, 2004
UPDATED: OCT 22, 2004 Deep, dark ruby color, with slightly tanned, medium head. Very malty, slightly sweet and roasted, trappist-like, even slightly port-wineous aroma with plums and rye bread. Sweet and rye-malty flavor with caramel and a bitter, chalky finish. Sugary-sticky, lasting aftertaste. Extremely full-bodied, oily, slicky, perfectly balanced palate. ABV is excellently hidden. Liquid food - yummy! Be sure to drink it slightly warmed up (14-16C).

Pours brown with a hint of ruby. Has a thick tan diminishing head. Initial taste was sweet with a bit of soy sauce and worcestershire sauce. Has a mild roast malt aroma. A nice beer.
