4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Draft at Drafting Room, Exton, and bottle, from Super Saver. This rating is of the draft. It poured dark brown/ruby edged, with a 1-finger off-white head. The aroma was heavy malt, chocoff, nuts, molasses, slight rauch, cabernet, and BS (brown sugar). The taste was heavily malty, with a big, rich, brown sugary cacao molasses, nuts, and some hops. Velvety palate. Like corn flakes dipped in dark chocolate, brown sugar, and nuts, then placed over a campfire for 30 seconds and then quickly dipped in red wine. Yummy!

UPDATED: OCT 19, 2009 Bottle. OMG!! This is my new favorite beer!! You take the best elements of all doppelbocks and add a touch of the great abt/quadruples and this is what you get. Wonderful dark color with a slightly sweet flavor that reminds me of Christmas, (Must be the time of the year). Ok, I pray this one stays in our area. I believe I might be drinking it for years to come. This one is WAY underrated. Highly recommended . (Rerated Because I had better beers since)

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JAN 13, 2005 Bottle. Chocolate/coffee aroma. Reddish-brown clear color - small head. Sweet chocolate malt flavor with a very nice coffee finish - not as astringent as Iíve found in many doppelbocks. An excellent beer for the style but may not be stronger enough for fans of the style.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
An absolute beauty of a doppelbock, and I see where Stoudts must have got their inspiration for their Anniversary Bock. A nice aroma, if a bit toned down, with notes of melanoidins, a little cocoa, and some spicy hop. Flavor is rounded with smooth caramelized malts, and a minor touch of chocolate. Finish is balanced. The real story here is the balance and mouthfeel. For a 9% malt monster, the beer is perfectly balanced, with a medium body at most. Smooth as all get out. It drinks so incredibly easy. One of the top doppels Iíve had.

UPDATED: JAN 27, 2008 Very dark brown/ruby. Large, foamy, tan head settles to a thin layer. Aroma of bready yeast, cloves, dark fruits, green plants, incense, light toastiness, and some spicy-ness. Same flavors with a touch of alcohol in the finish. Full, balanced, chewy palate somehow maintains an amazing drinkability. One of the best doppelbocks Iíve had.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle: Very nice aroma of figs, toffee, caramel, chocolate, and raisin. Pours a transparent mahogany with a moderate beige head that lasts a minute or so. Lots of malt in the form of caramel, chocolate, molasses, and toffee. Moderate fig, raisin, and fruit as well. After all the malty sweetness is a mildly roasty, lightly smokey, and lightly bitter finish with just the slightest touch of alcohol. Great mouthfeel. The full bodied mouthfeel ranks up there with the best of them. Thick, creamy, and velvety. My highest rated doppelbock behind 96 Samichlaus. Iím shocked at the average score for this fine brew.
