pivnizub (7231) - Bochum, Porúří, - DEC 24, 2007
Bottle: Clear, deep chestnut-amber coloured, visible carbonation, rather quickly diminishing loose off-white head, fruity (raisins) and a bit roast-malty nose, almost with a chocolatey touch; moderate to solid sweet-bitter flavour; discreet fruitiness in the bitter-sweet finish. Spicy and dark........

Bottle, thanks pivnizub. Surprisingly dark for a Märzen - opaque red chestnut, cappucino head. Doppelbockish sweet malt nose which carries over in to the malt flavorbase, tilts over into a sugary, somewhat thin body. A few aromatic hops, could be more pronounced, but do give a fresh citric note towards the finish. Interresting brew which just lacks the last edge.

(bottle) Clear, mahogany colour with a medium-sized off-white foamy head. Sweet, toast-malty and nutty aroma with caramel and a light hoppy touch. Sweet flavour, medium to light bodied, soft carbonation. Toast-malty base with caramel and a light herbal background; moderately sweet slightly bitter toasty and nutty finish. Decent dark Märzen.

Dark brown color, in fact very dark for a märzen. Malty, somewhat metallic aroma. Malty, caramelly, just a bit metallic flavor. Caramelly bitter metallic aftertaste. Becomes buttery as the beer warmens up. Tasty, but lacks perfection.
