riversideAK (1561), Shoreline, Washington, USA Jun 18, 2008 Dark brown almost black beer with a thin head. Aromas of roasted malts with a decent amount of oak, and a touch of rum. Nice aroma. Flavors come through with a dry roast as well as a moderate oak and a touch of rum. Lingering woody roast. Not as sweet as I thought it would have been with the rum. It wasn’t bad, but it could have been better I guess. BillKismet (1388), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 27, 2008 Black-bodied with a caramel brown head. Nearly understated aromatic medley of coffee, light rum, and woodiness. Easy roast flavor with light integration of rum and completed by a woody dryness. Does not hit you over the head with rum or alcohol like some novelty beers of this style. Davecooks (1140), Bay Area, California, USA Mar 26, 2008 Draft. Murky deep brown color with a frothy light tan head. Toasted malts and vanilla aromas. Sharp and bitter with a velvety mouthfeell. Warm malt flavors with vanilla. Clean, bitter finish DA (2376), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Dec 25, 2006 This beer was really excellent. Reminds me of barrel aged shakespear. Very smooth and creamy on the palatel, with a roasty chocolate start and light rum flavor in the finish. The oak wasn’t as strong, more sweet rum flavor, but nice and complex adding to the coal black robust stout base. Very compex flavor while remaining smooth and balanced. harlequinn (2746), Tacoma, Washington, USA Feb 8, 2006 This was killer! Absolutely one of the best oak aged stouts I have ever tasted, with distilled rum from the Rogue distillery, this was rich and complex and never over the top with flavors dominating. Nice vanilla and spice aroma, with flavors that compliment the aroma very nicely. Maple, vanilla, some very light alcohol notes, and some cinnamon spiciness in the finish. So enjoyable!
