Pint at Rogue Ale House. This is a crystalline copper colored ale with a small head. Interesting aroma. I can tell it’s an IPA with the bold hops but it’s not quite the typical approach. Juicy berries, pine, caramel. Flavor is a little woody, grassy, notes of berries are here. I’d like a hoppier IPA but this is a good beer.

On tap at Rogue Ales Public House in San Francisco. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a medium-sized off-white head. Aroma is Pacific Northwest style citrusy, piney, and earthy hops, along with sweet malt. Flavor is caramel malt and again Pacific Northwest hops. Mainly citrusy with some pine and earth. The 90 IBUs come through in substantial bittering hops as well as the flavor/aroma ones. Medium-bodied and somewhat dry on the palate with some mild hop resins. A reasonably good IPA overall. I may have been suffering from palate/liver fatigue at this point as it came at the end of a long drinking session.

Rating #100 for this one! Bomber courtesy of Travlr. Pours a very hazy yellow with a thin to medium off-white head that has okay retention and little to no lace. Aroma is a nice spicy and piney hop medley. Taste is massive grapefruit rind, really just an onslaught of overpowering hops.

Bottle at Pizzeria Paradiso. Clear golden, edge head, huge delicate lacing. Aroma of orange peel, fresh hops, coriander. taste is bitter start to finish, citrus, smoke edge. Very nice.

Bottle, purchased from the bewery in Newport. It actually doesn’t look very nice! Cloudy, dirty yellow with tons of particles. Spicy citrus and resin hop character in nice balance with sweetish toffee malts. Creamy, smooth mouthfeel, solid bitter finish.

UPDATED: APR 5, 2010 On tap at the Rogue place in San Francisco. Pours a slightly cloudy orange with a medium white head. A great nose; rich fresh citrus hops juicy. The flavor was great; a aggressive citrus hop, loads of caramel balance it out. Really well done.

Clear light golden with a creamy white head. Sweet malt vanilla and orange aroma. Bright slightly sticky palate and a taste of grapefruit and pine with moderate bitterness.

Nice aroma of spicy, citrusy hops. Cloudy blonde pour with floaties and a thin white head. Good flavor of citrusy, spicy hops, it’s also very dry and there’s bitterness in the end. The body is light with a creamy texture and gentle carbonation. Interesting.

Sample at tasting. Hazy golden orange pour with a short-lived creamy white head. Hoppy aroma has notes of orange, passionfruit, apricot, toffee and honey. Flavour is very similar but with a stronger malt profile providing notes of caramel and nuts, as well as hints of tropical fruit. Light mouthfeel with moderate carbonation and a long bitter finish. A good, well rounded IPA, very easy to drink.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Chevy Chase Wine, 3/3/10

Aroma: Nose of grapefruit and peach hops, caramel malts, orange, and grass
Appearance: Pours a mostly clear golden-orange color with a frothy white head and lots of lace
Flavor: Taste is sweet citrus fruits up-front, and lots of dryness in the middle palate and finish
Palate: It has a long duration, medium body, and a clean and oily mouthfeel
Overall Impression: This is a pretty solid IPA. It has a good citrus nose and flavor, and transitions into a nice bitter IPA flavor. I like this beer, a rather enjoyable one, and a nice representation of the style.
