Almost black color with medium head from a growler. Big malt aroma along with sweet chocolate. Taste is just like the aroma. Full bodied without the chocolate overtaking everything else. A bit of hop bitterness and coffee. Medium bodied and very drinkable.

4 ounce sample on tap at the brewpub. Dry. roasted cocoal aroma with some mild grapefruity bitter hoppiness present as well. Mostly opaque dark brown color with a small tan head. Slight sweet start, turning very roasted, chocolatey with some coffee notes. Very rich and silky. Nice smooth finish with some mild hopped bitter finish. Pleasant.

Nice roasted malt aroma. Flavor is roasted malt with almost a bit of a lactose sugar taste?? Still very dry stout but has a slight sweet creaminess to it. This one was on nitro. Very solid dry stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A - Pours a dark black color with a hint of brown around the edge with a finger of creamy off-white/tan head. The head had very good retention and nice lacing on the glass. S - Aroma has some burnt caramel/chocolate malt aromas. Also mixed in is some lactate sweetness. T - Lots of roasted caramel malts. Also a little bit of milk sweetness in the background. Through the middle some really deep roasted flavors come through alongside some chocolate malts. Finish is very roasty and malty and lingers very nicely. M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Very smooth and creamy with a little bit of a milky feel and a very nice and dry finish. D - Very drinkable. Could use a touch more flavor, but the flavors that are there are well balanced. The mothfeel and finish are really nice and pleasant.

Roasty nose. Dark beer with tan head. Roasty, yet sweet malt. Very pleasant, drinkable stout.

Pours a deep brown (close to black) with a thin tan head. Taste is smoky goodness - big malt character, tiny bit of a kick, finishes pretty dry. Definitely worth a try.

On draught at the brewpub 4/9/2005. I enjoyed that they proudly served this without nitrogen. Small greyish-beige head, rapidly dissipating, above a dark brown-black body. Aroma is quite good for a style which usually has trouble mounting much of an aroma, especially out of a convex glass in a brewpub. Licorice, mocha, sweet chocolate and light caramel, with a strong sense of vanilla beans. Flavor is fairly strong initially, with chewy choco-vanilla notes, turning in to light coffee and a lightly chewy caramel and barley malt flavor on the end. No hops and low carbonation, but enough to add some decent texture. Not overly watery, one of the least watery I have tried of the style, anyways. Another sample of this proved to be somewhat less enjoyable, as I drank the whole pint. Perhaps the chocolate just got a little boring and there is no yeastiness. Still a very enjoyable beer, and probably my favorite of the seven I tried while there.

(Draught) At the brewery. Thin, beige head and a near opaque, reddish body. Nose of fresh ground coffee with cocoa. Strogn coffee. Thin and unidimensional. Yawn....
